For those of you who want to relish the fragrance and taste of fresh seafood I recommend the private home lodge “Yawaraso”, located in Minamiboso city’s Chikura town, Chiba prefecture. Chikura is a small fisherman town and that is why the seafood served at Yawaraso will always be fresh. The menu also has locally grown vegetables and Minamiboso’s specialty - the giant spine lobster – all at a very affordable price. Moreover there is a natural hot spring in this lodge! After soaking in it your skin will become shiny and beautiful! Here you can enjoy not only delicious food but also a top-class hot spring.

So tasty and elastic! Spiny lobster sashimi!

Did you know that Minamiboso with its warm climate and surrounding sea is rich in spiny lobsters? Few people know this, but apparently Chiba prefecture has the country’s biggest catch of lobsters per year. Therefore the lobsters caught around Boso peninsula are also called “Boshu lobsters”.

At Yawaraso you will be served fresh seafood which has just been delivered from the nearby fishing port of Chikura town. Of course the lobsters are fresh too! Yawaraso offers a special spiny lobster menu for lovers of seafood. You can get one whole lobster, often weighing over 300 gram, turned into sashimi. It’s tasty and elastic, easy to eat and very sweet!

Yawaraso consists of a new inn and a home lodge, which is rather unique. The accommodation is quite cheap – you can enjoy a stay here with a lobster dinner for just 9800 JPY per person! Note: The price is as of March 2014.

A comfortable room where you can rest and relax before dinner

There are 14 rooms in the inn and 8 rooms in the home lodge. The latter share bathrooms and toilets but everything is very clean and pretty. Every room is equipped with a toothbrush, towels, yukata (light kimono) and basic amenities.

The rooms are filled with the nostalgic atmosphere of Showa period. They really feel as if you’ve arrived to visit a distant relative. While not necessarily luxurious, the rooms allow you to spend some precious and relaxing time in them. If you arrive early at Yawaraso, take a nap before dinner. Open the window and let the fresh and warm sea breeze enter the room. Everything feels so cozy that you’ll start daydreaming.

Rare to find good-quality home hot spring with good effects on the skin

There is a natural hot spring coming out of Yawaraso’s grounds – a rather rare thing for home lodges. The water is dark reddish-brown in color and very good for the skin. You’ll be surprised by the immediate effect the moment you enter!

This hot spring is rich in sodium bicarbonate, chlorides, sulfates and minerals. The bicarbonate and the sulfates have a very good effect on skin beautification. They have the double effect of making your skin shine and moisturizing it. The original spring has a temperature of 17.9 degrees so it gets warmed up, but no additional water is added.

Let me give a piece of advice to those who’re aiming for hot spring beautification. The hot spring components make a chemical reaction with the skin’s keratin and wrap your entire body. They continue to have an effect and permeate into the skin for 3 hours after you get out of the bath. Therefore showering after soaking means that you remove the effect of the hot spring. Don’t wash yourself after the bath so that the water components can enter your body.

A typical breakfast in the fisherman town: lobsters in a miso soup!

Morning breakfast is one of the delights of travelling. Yawaraso used to have its own farm and locally grown vegetables, so the meals consist of only good-quality rice and vegetables. Spiny lobsters are served in a miso soup. The broth has a fresh lobster taste and a top-class fragrance. Definitely try the delicious breakfast at this lodge!

The sea is just 5 minutes away by car. You can enjoy a stroll along the beach!

The Setohama Beach is just 5 minutes away by car from Yawaraso, so you can always take a walk along the seashore. There is a free parking lot for your convenience.

The blue sky, the fresh sea breeze, the gentle sunlight and the soft sand all combine together in a natural magic which makes your stay at Minamiboso unforgettable.

A relaxing and leisurely time to spend in Minamiboso

Yawaraso, with its delicious lobster meals and hot spring, is a place where you can completely relax during your trip. Enjoy your leisurely time however you like. Seasonal flowers blossom around the lodge and everything is surrounded by beautiful nature. You can also stop by just to test how good the hot spring is. Minamiboso is only 2 hours away by car from Tokyo which makes it an ideal short trip destination!

Note: The spiny lobster menu must be booked in advance on the phone. How to reach Yawaraso: From Tokyo Metropolitan Wangan Highway enter the Aqualine road and continue south to Tateyama from Kisarazu JCT. Then take National Route 128 and go to Chikura.
