The hotel

The Boutique ABaC Hotel now occupies two houses. When speaking about the building, it is referred to as “the old house” and “the new house.” Guests staying in the old house get a glimpse into the daily kitchen life as they walk through the kitchen to the elevator to get to and from their rooms. The kitchen was a theatre in the old house, which was once an Embassy of the United States. To keep the spirit alive, they decided to have guests walk through it to keep it as “a show in day-to-day hotel kitchen life.”

The grand rooms

The boutique hotel contains only 15 rooms. The rooms in the old house vary in size due to the renovations of the existing building. The rooms in the new house are the same size. The elegant rooms are light cream and off-white colors. The large windows allow for natural light with lush draperies to block the early morning sun and heat if desired. The hotel only has one standard double room, nine deluxe rooms, and four suites. Most of the rooms and suites have a private terrace. All the room contain a large flat screen TV, a CD/DVD player, iPad, minibar, remote control blinds and lights, a hot tub bath, and Hermès toiletries. Free wireless Internet is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel facilities

The boutique hotel contains beautiful facilities available for use. The small gym is open for clients to use. The spa and wellness center is an impressive area to relax and rejuvenate. The ABaC Spa offers a hot tub, cold plunge pool, hammam, various treatments, and a juice bar. Access to the spa is not limited to guests of the hotel, so if you are unable to book a room, you can still go and enjoy the space for 25 EUR (29 USD) per person per day. Treatments are an additional charge.

The hotel also has an impressive and inviting lounge area. It is a popular place that is used for drinks and sometimes an appetizer before dinner in the restaurant. Alternately, some people enjoy relaxing and having a few drinks after dinner. Located in part of the Old House, it is also occasionally used for small meetings.

Dining in the restaurant

Hotel ABaC Barcelona is home to an impressive two-star Michelin restaurant. Head Chef Jordi Cruz is the mastermind behind the dishes. The restaurant has two restaurant dining rooms along with two different tasting menus. One tasting menu is designed for individual guests and takes approximately two hours to complete. The second one is for groups of ten or more and takes about three hours to complete. Wine pairing is available with the tasting menu, however, if you want to choose something yourself, almost 1,000 wines are available in their wine cellar.

The main dining room can seat a group of up to 50 people or 56 individual guests. The other dining room is also the library. It can hold a small group of up to 20 guests. The Library is also where breakfast is served for the guests with pleasant views of the gardens. Breakfast is also available in the garden for those who prefer to be outdoors.

This led to the birth of our son in Ibiza, and eventually, more than two decades ago, I found myself in the vibrant city of Barcelona. My pa... Read more
