Cranbrook is the largest urban center in the region with a population of 26,083. It faces the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Rocky Mountains to the north and east. The Canadian Museum of Rail Travel is a collection of 28 railway cars of which 17 are currently available for tours to the public. The museum is also known as the “Trains Deluxe,” and opened in 1977. It restores and displays vintage passenger trains - the transcontinental “Deluxe Hotels-On-Wheels” is here. It emphasizes deluxe railway passenger car design in various eras as well as deluxe railway hotel architecture.

2. Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park

The Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia in the south of Cranbrook, surrounded by mixed forest. It is a popular haunt for picnickers and visitors from the nearby city of Cranbrook. 3. Western Financial Place

The Western Financial Place is a 4,264-seat arena in Cranbrook which was built in 2000 and is home to the Kootenay Ice WHL Major Junior ice hockey team. The arena at Western Financial Place hosts the Kootenay Ice hockey team which competes in the Western Hockey League. It also includes a full service restaurant plus express kiosk, a candy shop, a squash/racquetball court, and a swimming pool with a wave pool, sauna, hot tub, and waterslide, and a free outdoor senior’s training circuit.

4. Jimsmith Lake

This place offers to its visitors a wide variety of recreational activities such as canoeing, fishing, swimming, and a boat launch. Fishing for jumbo rainbow trout and large-mouth bass is a regular sport in the sandy beach, which also has a swimming area. There is a paved boat launch which only allows car-top boats or canoes.
