Located southeast of the vibrant state of sunny California, Artesia is a charming town with an interesting multicultural setting. The name of the town itself comes from the presence of artesian wells within the vicinity. During the early 20th century, the area was known as an agricultural site which was mostly run by Dutch and Portuguese farmers. Today, it is known as a popular shopping district. There is one area in Artesia which is regarded as “Little India” because of the many Indian-owned stalls and eateries and it has become a popular tourist destination. Every town has its local museum wherein you can learn about their history. For Artesia, it’s at the Artesia Historical Museum located along the busy and iconic Pioneer Boulevard. It sits opposite the Old Fire Station #30 which, together with the museum, is a top destination, especially for school field trips. At the historical Museum, which is run by Artesia Historical Society, you will find antique items and furniture that help tell the story of the town. The museum is housed in a lovely restored 1920s home.

Artesia is a town with a multicultural community so there are several areas where peoples of different races live harmoniously together. One of these areas is the Artesia Portuguese DES Hall. It was founded in 1927 when Portuguese communities were one of the major groups in Artesia. The aim of the community is to preserve Portuguese culture in the area and they have done so throughout the years. It mainly supports the activities of the Artesia D.E.S. Band and the Artesia D.E.S. Soccer Club.

3. Go skating at East West Ice Palace

Opened in 2005, East West Ice Palace is a winter wonderland in Artesia. The facility is co-owned by Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan and offers a variety of activities for its guests. The very basic is public skating, wherein anyone can grab a pair of skates from the rental area and freely skate during the scheduled times. You can also opt to play ice hockey or enroll in figure skating classes. The rink is also open for group rentals and birthday party celebrations.

Baber Park is a family-friendly park in the town of Artesia. It’s a great place to bring the whole family especially if you have little ones. The park offers a playground perfect for kids. A recently launched local project called “Tot Lot” was put into place for the benefit of the health of these kids, especially those who suffer from obesity. “Tot Lot” aims to promote a healthier lifestyle for kids through the newly installed playground. There is also a picnic area for families to come together.

If you’re into English pubs and good beer, you better check out London’s Pub & Grill at Artesia. It’s the best place around town to get a pint of the best beer around. Aside from the refreshments, the pub also offers English favorites such as fish and chips, lamb chops, and shepherd’s pie.
