Fort Borst Block House is one of the oldest structures in Centralia. It was first built in 1856 by the government with the help of local pioneers. The blockhouse’s log construction is nearly perfect and shows off the skill of the pioneers, who had only axes at their disposal to shape the logs. The blockhouse has served several purposes over the years, including grain storage and as a residence for several families. Although it was never used to protect the pioneers, it is a unique, well-preserved historic structure that is easy to visit in Fort Borst Park.
