In the southwestern region of Erath County in the state of Texas lies the little town of Dublin. Aside from its already obvious name, the Texan Government officially declared this town as the Irish Capital of Texas back in 2005. With that being said, Dublin is not only home to a diverse and wonderful community but has also produced several known household names, including Dr. Pepper and golf legend Ben Hogan. Dublin Historical Museum allows tourists to get a glimpse of how life is and has been in Dublin, Texas. Because of the great Irish influence, a lot of Irish cultural items can be found, including the famed green clover. There are also various photographs showing past members of the community and dozens of books donated by some of the locals. What many people loved the most though was the charming and friendly staff who were knowledgable enough to answer questions from the guests.

2. Disconnect from technology to go camping at Sowell Creek Park
Located along the Proctor Lake, Sowell Creek Park is an outdoor sanctuary for campers and nature lovers. It’s the perfect place for anyone who wishes to disconnect from technology, quite literally, because the signal is very weak in the area. Expect few trees as well. The usual activities are camping, fishing and swimming in the lake. There are often very few people so you’ll also have an added level of privacy. Best to grab a good book, a mug of hot chocolate, and just sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic views of Proctor Lake.

3. Spend an afternoon at Dublin Park

Dublin Park is pretty much the main town park. It’s a great place to go if you simply need to relax. Bring your family for a picnic or take your friends to go swimming at their pool. You can also bring your pets to go for a walk on a sunny afternoon! The local community is being praised for constantly improving the park’s facilities. They’ve already fixed up the playground for children and the walking trail has been installed for easier access.

4. Visit the W.M. Wright Historical Park
If you happen to be in town and would like to see some of Dublin’s historic buildings, then best to drop by W.M. Wright Historical Park. It’s not a huge park, so a quick stop should be enough to learn about its history. The park contains two buildings - a log cabin and a steam-powered grist mill that was built in 1855 and 1882, respectively. Unfortunately, the inside is not open for viewing nor is the place listed on the National Register of Historic Places; however, there is a Texas state historical marker indicated outside that still makes it worth viewing.

For shooting enthusiasts and thrill junkies, drop by Red Barn Shooting Range. It’s both a shopping center for guns and arms and a shooting range. Previous visitors have said that the staff is very helpful and knowledgable about their work. They also loved the reasonable prices of both the items and the range.

6. Discover the history behind Dr. Pepper Museum
Dr. Pepper Museum, or more locally known as Dublin Bottling Works, is a bottling plant for sodas in Dublin, Texas. What originally started as an interest in the fruity smell of fountain drinks that one pharmacist from Waco, Texas discovered eventually became a worldwide phenomenon that we know now as Dr. Pepper. Dublin Bottling Works then became the first facility to bottle Dr. Pepper drinks. Not to be confused with the Waco Dr. Pepper Museum, the Dublin Bottling Works Museum shows the process of how the sodas are made from pure cane sugar and bottled to perfection. There’s also a museum for memorabilia related to W.P. Kloster, the owner of Dublin Bottling Works.

7. Relish the steaks at Woody's Place

Located a little off the highway near Dublin, Texas lies Woody’s Place. If you’re looking for quality steaks, this is the place to be. Previous guests have gushed that their steaks are one of the best they’ve tasted. They also have quality burgers, pizza, and onion rings. The service is not bad, either. The 70s diner interiors are also worth noting. The steakhouse is a favorite stopover of many who are driving through Texas.

8. Get to know the legendary golfer at Ben Hogan Museum
Learn about the life and legacy of golf legend Ben Hogan, a true native of Dublin, Texas, at the Ben Hogan Museum. It’s right around the corner from Dublin Bottling Works, so it’s a perfect addition to your itinerary should you be touring Dublin. There are all sorts of memorabilia in the museum that shows Hogan’s humble beginnings up to his glorious career. See photographs, documentary clips, antique golf clubs and more when touring the museum. Even though you’re not into the sport, visiting the museum allows you to develop a sense of respect and admiration towards the triumph story of Ben Hogan.

The 1950s diner-inspired restaurant also offers delicious sandwiches and amazing desserts. Enjoy your food and drinks among the vintage interiors that include a soda bar, a vintage jukebox, and an original phone booth that still works! It’s definitely a must-visit for a good dose of nostalgia!

Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum is home to various memorabilia of the Dublin, Texas, rodeo scene during the 30s all through the 50s. It was during these years that the World’s Championship Rodeo took place. Everett Colborn and Gene Autry were the legendary duo behind the World’s Championship Rodeo that eventually became the nation’s best rodeo. At the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum, visitors will learn about their life and their contribution to the sport. They will also get to know the stories of those who lived and devoted their life to rodeo during the dubbed golden era of rodeo.
