Faro de Las Cabezas de San Juan, also known as Cape San Juan Light, is a renowned lighthouse situated on the northeastern part of the highest point of Cape San Juan in Fajardo, Puerto RIco. It is celebrated due to its history; the light has was constructed in 1880 and was first lit in 1882. The light house played a crucial role in the Battle of Fajardo during the Spanish-American war when Puerto Rico was involved. 10. Be awed by the sight of La Zanja
La Zanja, known as “The Trench” in its direct translation to English, is located in the northeastern-most tip of Puerto Rico in Fajardo. It is a secluded utopia found in Las Cabezas de San Juan nature reserve, thus it isn’t accessible by car. Reaching the La Zanja requires you to go on a bit of a hike but as you reach the area, the exhaustion you feel from walking will suddenly be replaced with exhilaration as you witness the marvel that is La Zanja. Puerto Rico is home to a total of three bioluminiscent bays; these are rare ecosystems that contain microscopic, singe-celled organisms called dinoflagellates which, if are grown in enough quantities, will produce a glow-in-the-dark effect when they are stimulated by movement. One of the three bioluminiscent bays, Laguna Grande, is found in Fajardo. It is the only one that is not technically a bay, it is a narrow and long canal that is better considered as a lagoon.
