Located in Northwest Alberta, the city of Grande Prairie is a relatively small one and is situated approximately 456 km. (283 mi.) northwest of Edmonton City. The area was first inhabited by native tribes — most notably the Dane-zaa, Cree and Iroquois peoples who came into contact with European traders and started selling pelts and furs to them. By 1909, a land rush was in full force, making the city grow considerably. As such, the town of Grande Prairie was formed by 1912. The area is popular for those who love outdoor sports as there is plenty of room for outdoor activities here no matter what time of the year it is. But if that’s not your thing, Grande Prairie has a surprising number of festivals and events that goes on annually. Scroll down for the top things to do in Grande Prairie, Canada.
