Designed by Italian Giovanni Battista Rava, Cathedral Basilica Of The Assumption Of Our Lady is a stunning Baroque church. It has a tempestuous history: the Roman-style church was first consecrated by King Stephen I in at early 11th century. Mongols flattened this original structure in 1241, and the church we see now was completely rebuilt from the 1630’s onward. The Virgin Mary image on the altar is a venerated pilgrimage site.
