Located on the west bank of the Tennessee River, the storehouse has had many reincarnations over the centuries. After the Civil War, John West purchased it to use as a general store and after that, it was used as a dance hall, packing house, and a church. During the 1900s, it served as a grocery store and as a block of residential apartments up until the 1980s.
