St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church built in Kottar, Nagercoil. A Jesuit priest named St. Francis was doing missionary work in Kottar when he saved the city from an invasion with the help of the crucifix and local army. The king was impressed by his heroic act and gave him land where the Catholic shrine is now situated. At present, the church’s pristine structure captures the attention of tourists and locals alike.
