The original Christ Church Parish Church in Oistins was constructed in 1935, but the current church is the fifth of its kind on the site. Previous structures were destroyed by various natural disasters on Barbados, including fire, hurricanes and floods. The attractive church nestles in a beautiful setting, a fairly long walk up a steep hill from the town, but it is worth the effort.

2. Relax on the sand at Maxwell Beach

Maxwell Beach is a public beach, close to Oistins on the south coast of Barbados. Visitors are greeted by a spread of white coral sand and glistening turquoise waters and can hire umbrellas and beach chairs to relax on the beach. Take along a picnic, buy some snacks from the local supermarket or head to Surfers Cafe (details included under number four below. A variety of watersports are available, including jet skis, scuba diving, snorkeling, boogie boarding and sailing on Hobie Cats.

3. Tee off at Barbados Golf Club

Barbados Golf Club lies in Durants, Oistins and is the main golfing site in Barbados. The golf course has the approval of the PGA European Tour and has hosted the Barbados Open a number of times. The course was reconstructed and reopened in 2000 to the designs of Ron Kirby, a professional golf course architect. The course is set in picturesque tropical surroundings and offers a number of great challenges and rewards, including beautiful scenic views all around.

Surfer’s Cafe is a laid back and friendly restaurant overlooking Oistins Bay on the western edge of the town. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views over the bay and the fishing village, including hand-crafted fishing vessels plying their trade out on the water. Surfer’s Cafe is also the ideal spot to enjoy spectacular sunsets.
