Fortaleza de Sagres is one of the significant (if not the main) tourist attractions in town. This fantastic fort can be found on top of the headland to the south of Praia da Mareta. Dating as far back as the 15th century, this fort uniquely has just one exterior wall. Massive 200-foot (61 m) cliffs provided the rest of the fortress’s defenses. Built to detect enemies, this fort is now a place where visitors and tourists can see everything about the fort and its past glories.
