St. John’s is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador province of Canada. Situated on the coast of the Atlantic, this city is located to the east of North America. In 1497, Italian explorer John Cabot sailed into the scenic and natural harbor of the city called “Narrows”. He claimed the city for England, and Europeans came to settle in the area, making it the oldest European settlement in North America. Victorian-style houses were built and there are a few that are still standing until today - remnants of an era when foreign settlers walked St. John’s streets. With several historic sites, cultural centers, and tourist spots, you will never have a dull moment while visiting this city. Scroll down to see our list of the things to do in St. John’s, Canada.

Later, British and French soldiers fought on this island for control of North America, and the British won. The small tower atop the hill named Cabot Tower was built in 1898 in his honor and to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It is on this same hill that Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic message.
