Situated on a hill in Rapallo, the Sanctuary of Our Lady Montallegro is one of the most beautiful landmarks of the town. The sanctuary was built in 1559 to celebrate the apparition of the Virgin Mary before a farmer named Giovanni Chichizola two years before, on the second of July 1557 to be exact. The marble facade of the church looks spectacular at night. Keep an eye on the walls of the church and you will be able to see hundreds of votive offerings, some of which were painted, whereas the others were carved in precious metals.
