1. The beaches

Ubatuba is well-known for its beaches, and you can choose from over 90 of them. Itagua is on the city center, and while it’s not ideal for swimming, it’s the perfect spot for strolling and cycling. Lazaro, which is 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of the center, offers serene waters and lush surroundings. Indeed, it’s the ideal place to go to with your family. Waves and 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) of soft sand await you at Grande. You can just relax or show off your surfing skills. Itamambuca is also a popular beach for surfers. Apart from the challenges waves, you will certainly enjoy the view of the natural landscapes. Sunuga is the place to be for some fun-filled skim boarding. If you’re looking for an uninhabited paradise, then visit Almada, Brava, or Cedro.

2. Ubatuba Aquarium

See the many wonders of the underwater world up-close at Ubatuba Aquarium in Rua Guarani. It houses a wide variety of marine animals such as sharks, sea urchins, skate fish, rays, and penguins. You will have a chance to hold and feed some of these adorable creatures. There are also exhibits that will show you the effects of pollution in the sea. It’s sure to be a moving experience. Before you leave the aquarium, make sure you watch the documentaries about different conservation efforts. Both kids and adults will certainly have a memorable time here.

3. Prumirim Waterfall

What better way to enjoy nature than with a sequence of waterfalls and a vast rainforest. Prumirim Waterfall is only 19 kilometers (12 miles) from the center of the city, and it can easily be reached on foot through a short trail. Upon arrival, you can just unwind and marvel at the lush scenery or go for a swim. Keep in mind that the water is very cold most of the time. At the bottom part, you can unleash your inner Tarzan by swinging on the rope attached to the trees.

4. Serra do Mar National Park

Serra do Mar National Park was established in 1977, and it offers 780,000 acres (3,156,548,010 square meters) of natural beauty. As you walk through the trails, prepare to be astounded by the greenery and unobstructed mountain and sea views. You can stop at one of the lovely waterfalls for a well-deserved moment of relaxation. Another highlight of the park is its diverse wildlife. There’s a huge chance of you spotting birds and many other fascinating animals.

6. Ilha Anchieta State Park

The 2,050-acre (8,296,956 square meters) Ilha Anchieta State Park in the Atlantic Ocean is where you can appreciate nature and learn about history. The water is calm, making it ideal for a relaxing swim. You can also put on your snorkeling gear and spot different types of colorful fishes. Continue to the picturesque rainforest to admire the diverse flora and fauna. If you want to revisit the past, then check out the ruins of a prison dating back to 1902. In 1952, a riot erupted inside the jail, which led to its closure. Expect to see more historical buildings as you explore the island further.

8. Projeto Tamar Ubatuba

The organization known as Project Tamar aims to save Brazil’s sea turtles from extinction, and its first base was built in Ubatuba. On your visit, head to the tanks and aquariums for an up-close look at the different turtle species, namely comb, loggerhead, green, and olive. Kids will certainly have a fun time feeding them. Projeto Tamar Ubatuba will also enlighten you about life in the ocean and the various efforts in keeping the lovely animals safe and healthy. You will surely be inspired after the trip. The base opened in 1991, and remains to be one of the city’s most popular attractions.

9. Automobile Museum

This museum was founded in 1976 by a group of people who have one thing in common, a love for classic cars. Visit the Automobile Museum in Rua Tapajos and see its wide collection of old but well-preserved vehicles. It has over 150 cars, each of which is sure to leave you in awe. Some of the highlights include the L-29 Brougham, Lincoln-Zephyr 1937, Chevrolet Style Line Station 1950, Cadillac Presidential 1952, and McLaren M23 1974. The building also houses motorcycles, bikes, and various automobile parts.

Have a great time in Ubatuba

Summer in Ubatuba is from January to February, and it’s where the beaches are crowded and the city center experiences traffic. It’s the best time to visit if you prefer a bustling atmosphere. As for the rest of the year, the metropolis is mostly quiet with only a limited number of tourists. Keep in mind though that during the low season, some of the shops and restaurants may be closed.
