Discover the stylish 8hotel, located in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture in the Shonan area. Opened in 2011, this art hotel’s creators wanted to make cute designer rooms. Everything from the guest rooms to the restaurant to the amenities is stylish, so much so that it has recently been featured in magazines in Japan. Despite being located in the center of the city, the hidden away 8hotel looks and feels like a resort hotel. Also, being so close to Enoshima and Kamakura means that it’s great for sightseeing!

The Hotel’s Creators Made a Secret Top Floor

8hotel is located in a row of buildings about two minutes walk from Odakyu Fujisawa Station. Even the entrance, which is decorated with tropical plants, gives off a resort feeling. Friendly staff greet guests from behind the stylish, boutique-like reception counter.

Since it was opened so recently, most of the facilities are new and help make for a comfortable stay. The key feature of the hotel is the “secret floor”, located on the top floor (12f). Only accessible with a special key, it’s definitely VIP.

The hotel’s designers put seven unique rooms on this floor, and each is cute in its own way! Each room has different designs on the walls, such as drawings of yachts, busses, whales, etc. They’re all appealing.

Guests wil l also appreciate the stylish cushions and other decor. Some rooms even have a view of Enoshima, a perfect way to start your trip here.

Plenty of Space for the Family in the Comfortable Secret Top Floor Rooms

The top floor rooms are also spacious, with over 24 square meters of floor space. There are twin beds, perfect for families with small children. The hotel doesn’t provide spare beds, but children under elementary school age can co-sleep with their parents at no additional charge.

The room featuring the Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden) is especially popular with children! It’s bound to make their trip more enjoyable.

The dryer, slippers, and other room amenities come in cute bags. Due to the high popularity of the rooms’ cushions, coffee cups, cloth bags, and other items, they’ve begun selling them along with various 8hotel products. You can buy them online or at the front counter.

They’re all adorable, and whether you want a souvenir for you or a present for a friend, they’ve got just the thing thing. Be sure to check it out.

Note: The 12th floor rooms come with twin beds or double beds. When reserving, a (free) member’s registration is needed. Be sure to confirm details when making your booking.

For single female travelers, the “ladies room” is a perfect fit! The room was designed especially for the ladies, with a cute bed and wallpaper. Special amenities, such as fingernail polish remover and a makeup removal kit are included. Check this out for the best in female-specific hospitality!

8.Cafe — Local Production for Local Consumption

The first floor of the hotel is where you’ll find 8.Cafe (pronounced eito dotto kafe in Japanese). This tropical looking cafe with a California-inspired interior has a warm atmosphere. You might find yourself having spent more time than you planned in its stylish, comfortable interior.

Food is available from breakfast to dinner, and at night the cafe turns into a bar. It’s open to the public, and many people not staying at the hotel will come just to use 8.Cafe.

With a focus on good taste, the cafe makes dishes using local and organic produce that are also arranged to be visually appealing. The most popular menu item for lunch and dinner is the hamburger. The cafe even has a pasty chef, and the desserts are a must-try. With its great food and cutely decorated plates, 8.Cafe is definitely worth a visit.

Many guests choose to stay at the hotel and use the cafe for a birthday or other celebration.

Also, located in a separate building, the Fujisawa Table is a stylish, fashionable Italian restaurant serving up dishes with fresh seafood and local ingredients. The chef studied in Italy and makes incredible Italian food. Fujisawa Table is also open for lunch and dinner.

Get a Powerful Start to Your Day! French Toast that’s Too Good to be True

As expected, 8.Cafe is also where the hotel serves breakfast!

If the weather is nice the staff will throw open the terrace doors so guests can enjoy a comfortable morning breeze. It feels great and is the prefect way to start the day.

You can choose from french toast, okayu (Japanese rice porridge), or eggs benedict. All come with soup, salad, and a drink.

They’re all delicious, but I recommend the french toast. The french toast is covered with colorful, vitamin rich fruits to help kick off your day. Even if you’re not that hungry, this soft, mushy french toast is just too good not to eat. The white cream topping is made from yogurt instead of heavy cream, which helps make the dish not too sweet and perfect for breakfast.

Information:

Breakfast - 6:30AM - 10:00AM (last order 9:30AM) Price - 1,000JPY for hotel guests, 1,2000JPY for non guests (tax included)

The warmth and hospitality of the staff at 8.Cafe is outstanding. Come here to get a great morning start, then go make the most of your day.

Rental Bicycles and Mopeds Available, with Weekend Tuk-tuk Service!

rental bicycles and mopeds available, with weekend tuk-tuk service!

The hotel rents bicycles and mopeds for guests to use when going to the beach. There’s also a Tuk-tuk (pictured), which is uncommon for Japan but often used in Southeast Asian countries as a type of taxi. Explore the Shonan area with the wind in your hair!

There is a charge to rent a bicycle or moped, but the Tuk-tuk can be ridden for free. It’s available on weekends by reservation only – please ask hotel staff for details. Don’t pass up the rare chance to ride a Tuk-tuk in Japan!

Standard Rooms Also Available from 3,000JPY!

The rooms on the secret floor are excellent, and if you stay there you’ll have a great story to tell!

The secret floor rooms are moderately priced, but if you’re looking to save money, standard rooms are also available starting at 3,000JPY per night (twin rooms, price per-person). The standard rooms are more simplistic, but it’s a clearly 8hotel-esque simplicity. They’re a great way to get the most for your buck.

With secret floor rooms, ladies rooms, and standard rooms, there’s surely something to suit your tastes. The website offers a variety of packages, including aquariums and birthday specials, so you can tailor your trip exactly how you like.

It’s also in a great location, with plenty of convenience stores and restaurants close by in addition to the train station building. Enoshima can be reached in just 10 minutes, and the hotel is a perfect fit if you’re visiting Kamakura and the Shonan area.
