History lovers will delight in visiting Van Buren, the second largest city in the Forst Smith, Arkansas–Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. This city features a rich history — it was settled by David Boyd and Thomas Martin in 1818 and served as a battleground during the Civil War.

Because of this, you can find many historical landmarks here, such as the historic Main Street (which has been used in a few films), the Old Frisco Station (a Victorian-style railroad station also featured in films), and the King Opera House.

In addition to its historical and cultural sites, Van Buren has parks and recreation areas. One famous attraction is Lee Creek, where you can go hiking, fishing, and boating.

The county seat of Miller County, Texarkana, is the twin city of Texarkana in Texas. Even though both cities have mayors and city councils, they sometimes function as one. Their citizens can also cross the border and freely access the landmarks and other facilities on the other side.

Texarkana was founded at a railroad intersection in 1873 and incorporated into Arkansas in 1880. In other words, this city is historical, and you can see evidence in the various landmarks. There’s the Four States Auto Museum, which showcases the 100-year evolution of auto manufacturing. There’s also the Perot Theater, which hosts gallery exhibits throughout the year. Other places of interest include the Museum of Regional History and the Ace of Clubs House.

Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, northwest Arkansas, Eureka Springs is a city known well for the Victorian buildings that it has preserved over the years. Surrounded by thick hardwood forests, the moment you enter the city, it feels like you’ve teleported back to the Victorian era, a feeling strengthed by places like Palace Bath House, Basin Park Hotel and Crescent Hotel. The city has more to offer than just its buildings, however. Home to many art galleries, Eureka Springs is known for its art and culture scene, being the heart of Arkansas Art Trail. In May, there’s a month-long appreciation of the arts during the May Festival of the Arts. And if you need to get away from people, then take a hike down the many natural trails in the city, ones that lead to its natural spring.

Built somewhere in the late 1800s and the early 1900s, the hot spring bathhouses are another famous spot in Arkansas, commonly known as the Bathhouse Row since all of them are in close proximity to one another. While in the past, every bathhouse found in the Bathhouse Row used to be active, the same cannot be said today as only two of them are left working - the Quapaw and the Buckstaff. The main aim of the bathhouse was to allow people to bathe and relax in the thermal mineral waters fed by the springs. Thankfully, the springs also provide water to the rest of the town, and thus, visitors can bathe in the mineral water even in hotels, if they stay overnight.
