Known as the capital city of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin is a must-visit metropolis with a dramatic and quaint cityscape. It is a picture-perfect vacation destination that can charm tourists with its medieval architecture and old-fashioned cobbled streets that are lined with chic cafes. The 13th-century Dublin Castle is a top destination for history and culture buffs, while St. Patrick’s Cathedral can draw in pilgrims. Families can enjoy spending some quality time at Phoenix Park and St. Stephen’s Green, while a group of friends can go on a pub-hopping adventure around the city’s numerous nightspots. Looking for accommodations in this beautiful city? Browse through this list of where to stay in Dublin, Ireland, including the best hotels.
Tip from tour guide
If you're figuring out where to stay, groups of friends can pick the city center. Or go 1 mile (1.60 kilometre) to Rathmines, Donnybrook, or Sandymount just to be outside of the city. I also recommend the south side of the river just to be safe. Dublin is generally safe, but it's a capital city, so you have to be careful.

Do you love literature as much as music? Then take a 15-minute drive to Merrion Park to see the Oscar Wilde Monument. You will find a statue by Danny Osborne made of white and green jade, pink thulite, and granite stone. It depicts Oscar facing his childhood home in Merrion Square (he was born on Westland Row). It was unveiled in 1997 by Wilde's grandson Merlin Holland.
Although Wilde was married with two children, he was gay. His affair with Lord Alfred Douglas led to two years of hard labor in Reading Gaol, following a failed libel trial against Douglas' father. In 1900 Wilde died and was buried in Paris.

This property is only a 20-minute drive from the historic castle at Ballymount Park. Here, you can check out the gatehouse to Ballymount Castle, which is the best-preserved part. It's wedged in between the motorway and the tram tracks. It was excavated in the 80s and 90s before the construction of the lines. People around here call it "Kingswood Castle." The castle dates back to 1622 and was owned by Sir William Parsons, who was a Surveyor General for Ireland, an MP, and involved in the plantations. He was later jailed for treason.
