Any travelers out there heading to England sometime soon might want to check out more than just London. The country is full of little towns and boroughs that will really give you a sense of English life that’s off the beaten path and out of the big city life. The town of Halifax is located in West Yorkshire and has a very long history dating back to at least 1091. The name comes from the old English for “halh-gefeaxe” meaning “area of coarse grass in a nook of land.”
Later on, the town’s wealth came from cotton, wool and carpet industries. In fact, there are still many mills in the area that were used to process textiles. Halifax is about 110 kilometers (65 miles) from Liverpool and is accessible by train and bus. There are plenty of things to do in this West Yorkshire town and plenty more places to stay while you visit. Here is a list of some of the best spots from cozy cabins to historic hotels.
We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 04, 2024.
1. h-century mill apartment (from USD 70)
Plenty of mills in the area have been converted for other uses. Some have been converted to businesses or offices and some have been converted to apartments like this one! Stay in a 19th-century mill converted into an apartment, located away from the hustle and bustle but still close to the center of town, where you can find some restaurants and entertainment. What’s cool about this place is that there are still many original features in the place, such as pine beams and the wheel used for lifting wool.
