1. V. Sattui
After immigrating from Italy in 1855, Vittorio Sattui provided the good people of the area some of the finest wines around. Unfortunately, by the time Prohibition rolled around, Vittorio was forced out of business and it wasn’t until 1976 that his great-grandson, Dario, would resurrect the family business and reopen the family winery in Napa Valley. 2. Darioush
Started by a man named Darioush Khaledi, his father was a Persian winemaker and has since passed down the customs and traditions of winemaking to him. Darioush took the traditions of winemaking learned from his father and in the 1990s, he moved to Napa to continue those traditions and try his hand at the American dream.

3. Castello di Amorosa
Try some of the best Italian inspired wine right in the heart of Napa. The Castello di Amorosa is a vineyard with an authentic 13th-century style Italian castle design that offers tastings, pairings and tours of the grounds. 4. Spottswoode Winery

Since 1972, the family at the Spottswoode Estate has been growing grapes for local wineries and a decade later, they tried their hand at winemaking and as it turns out, they were pretty good at it. Since the family both own the land and the vineyard, there is a certain elegance you can find within every bottle that lets you know it was crafted with love. Everything on the property is organically grown in the lush gardens surrounding the estate including the grapes themselves that go into their wine.

5. Artesa Vineyards & Winery
In the 1980s, one of Spain’s most historic winemaking families decided to head to the U.S and start planning a vineyard in Napa. In 1991, the business took off and now Artesa is one of the best wines around Napa. The name comes from the Catalan word for “handcrafted” and that’s what you will find here, some amazing handcrafted wines including Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons. 6. Domaine Carneros
Founded by the Taittinger family which was a noble family behind the Taittinger Champagne, Domaine Carneros started in the 1970s and by the early ‘80s, the family had 137 acres of vineyards in Napa. Drawing on their experience with Champagne, the folks behind Domaine Carneros specialize in sparkling wines and Pinot Noirs. The Domaine Carneros have their own French style Chateaux on the property which is a sight in itself sitting on top of a knoll.

7. Chateau Montelena Winery
Chateau Montelena Winery has, perhaps, some of best wine you can find that’s produced in the U.S. In 1976 during the Paris Wine Tasting Competition, a bottle of white wine from the Chateau Montelena Winery beat the French wine in a blind tasting competition. In the event, all 11 judges scored the wine from Chateau Montelena Winery to be better than the French variety. The event was even fictionalized in a 2008 movie starring Alan Rickman. So suffice it to say, this is some pretty good wine, in fact, a 1973 bottle of Chateau Montelena Chardonnay recently sold for over 11,000 USD.

8. Luna Vineyards
Luna Vineyards opened in 1995 and since then, they’ve brought the traditions of Italian winemaking to the Napa area. They are also the first family-owned winery to plant and make the Italian varietal Pinot Grigio and since then, they’ve been making strides to help sustain the rich and biodiverse vineyard using new methods of sustainability.

9. Stags' Leap Winery
Stags’ Leap Winery was established in 1893 and since then, it has been producing some delicious wines around the Napa area. With a winery over 100 years old, you can bet that in every bottle is made with tradition and heritage in mind. The winery had to be put on hold because of Prohibition and war, but since the 1970s, it underwent revitalization and continued to produce some of the best wine around.

10. Beringer Vineyards
Beringer Vineyards’ story begins with Jacob Beringer who immigrated to the U.S from Germany in 1868. Upon hearing that the hills and valleys of Napa were similar to those back home, he took to California and started his own winery. During Prohibition, the winery managed to stay open operating under a special license that allowed wine to be made for religious purposes and in the 1930’s they were one of the first wineries to offer tours of the estate.
