One of the first activities associated with Whistler, British Columbia, Canada is skiing. While it is truly a skiing mecca, a plethora of other activities make it a destination for families, adventurers, or those looking for a quiet getaway. Whistler is designed to make it easy to be outside and engage with family and friends.

Play in the snow

A great family activity is tubing at the Coca-Cola Tube Park near Blackcomb Mountain in the Base 2 zone. Regardless of your age, you can act like a kid while racing down the tubing lanes. A conveyor rope helps you to the top. Tubes are available in both adult and child sizes, and no special skill is required. There are minimum height and age requirements for children. Rates are by the hour and begin at 14 CAD (10.10 USD) for children and 22 CAD (15.87 USD) for adults.

Baseboard sledding is the ultimate experience at Whistler Olympic Park. Equipment is included in the admission price. Single and multi-slide passes, as well as full day admission, are available. Rates start at 53 CAD (38.24 USD) per adult per day and a single ride pass is 12.95 CAD (9.34 USD).

Snowmobiling sounds like an easy, minimal exertion activity, but depending on the trail and your skill in driving, this may not be the case. Multiple backcountry options are available for the independent adventurer. Canadian Wilderness Adventures offers a full range of guided tours for the beginner to expert in the Callaghan and Blackcomb area with all equipment provided. Rates begin at 149 CAD (107.51 USD) with tours ranging from 2.5 to 6 hours in duration. There are age and size restrictions for child participation.

Dog sledding is another great family activity. Canadian Wilderness Adventures has a team of high energy dogs who consider sledding play and work. All equipment is provided on guided tours. Tours start at 189 CAD (136.37 USD) per person.

Feeling a little more adventurous? Try your hand at bobsleigh or skeleton on the Olympic Park tracks. Bobsleighs, with a trained pilot to see you safely through the course, can accommodate four people. Alternatively, you can launch yourself headfirst down the track on a skeleton sled for a heart-stopping adventure. Rates start at 169 CAD (121.94 USD) per person.

Looking for something a little slower

Sleigh rides are available in two locations in Whistler. The mountain ride is about one hour long and covers trails into the woods and over the mountain slopes. Rates start at 60 CAD (43.29 USD) per person. The golf course ride is about 30-minutes long and gently glides over the golf course. Rates start at 50 CAD (36.08 USD) per person. Reservations are recommended for either tour, especially on weekends or holidays.

On a clear day, guests can see for miles in any direction while traveling high above the mountain slopes on the Peak to Peak Gondola. The gondola connects the Whistler and Blackcomb ski area via aerial lines covering approximately 2.7 miles. The highest point is 1400 feet off the ground! The ride to the top of Whistler takes about 25 minutes while the ride across the span is about 20 minutes each way. Allow two hours for the full experience, especially at peak times. Dining tours allow you to taste your way through multiple courses at different restaurants within the Whistler area. Tours start at 49 CAD (35.36 USD) per person with a variety of themes and courses available.

Take a cultural journey through time at the Aboriginal Museum Gallery. Tour guides are local tribal members and craftsmen. As you enjoy the museum exhibits, you learn about the arts and crafts important to the people. You can even try your hand at playing a drum. Rates are 18 CAD (12.99 USD) per person for adults.

For the ultimate in relaxation and reflection, Scandinave Spa offers a silent haven to truly unplug and escape for a few hours. Silent reflection is encouraged as this is a no technology allowed environment – no cameras, no cell phones, and no talking. Professional masseurs offer one hour massages utilizing a variety of modalities. Guests can also relax in the hot pools, steam room, sauna, or one of many seating areas around the facility. Packages start at 152 CAD (109.68 USD) per person.

Something for everyone

You can always head for the slopes of Whistler and Blackcomb, but there are so many other activities available in Whistler that everyone can enjoy the getaway.
