Every year in Miyagi prefecture, in Northern Japan, birders are rewarded with the sight of thousands of white fronted geese noisily making their way home. Miyagi’s rice fields and wetlands are also home to other species such as bean geese and stately Bewick’s swans. To warm up after a long day’s birding, you can also try out some of Miyagi’s myriad hot springs, and relax at a ski chalet in the mountains.

While Japan’s southern region is known for its breathtaking beaches and beautiful islands, people just visiting Tokyo can also get the beach experience without having to go very far. Kamakura is a coastal town in Kanagawa Prefecture that lies less than an hour south by train. With the laid-back atmosphere, beautiful temples, and sprawling beaches, it's a great place to get away and escape the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Kamakura Seaside Park is home to Yuigahama Beach and Zaimokuza Beach. They are right next to one another and offer Tokyoites and its visitors alike a convenient option when it comes to much needed rest and relaxation.

The season when you would love to relax leisurely in an open air hot spring is coming. Now I will introduce one such recommended place for the upcoming season. That is Jigokudani Monkey Park in Yamanouchi town, Nagano prefecture – a place known for monkeys, not humans, bathing in the hot springs. Unique in the world, this place has a special open air bath where monkeys enter and can be observed from very close. Trying to pull through the cold, their appearance and expressions make them look almost like humans.
