Growing up I always dreamed of going backpacking through Europe and then exploring South East Asia in a huge post-college graduation adventure. It would be the last time that (for a while) where I would have almost an entire summer with no responsibilities and no commitments. While I've hit a *small* snag in this plan, it doesn't mean I can't continue to dream up the wonderful places I'll visit and cultures I'll explore. One of the most popular destinations nowadays is Thailand, and it's quite easy to see why. They have delicious food, sparkling beaches, and almost any city (even the tourist-heavy ones) will give you a rich slice of Thai culture that you'll never forget. So while many of us will inevitably include major cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai in our itineraries, I urge you to include some of Thailand's smaller (yet equally precious) gems - **Songkhla**. Songkhla is the capital of the Songkhla Province in Southern Thailand. The city is surrounded by beaches and is often called "the great city on two seas". A visit to Songkhla will transport you to another world - one that you won't want to leave. So, to narrow down or at least give you a starting point for your sightseeing, check out some of the coolest spots in Songkhla.

There's something special about Hatyai, something that sets it apart from other large cities like Bangkok, Thailand's capital. Many have tried to put a finger on what exactly it is (including myself), but it's truly something that cannot be explained, only felt. Perhaps it's the way modern buildings and traditional markets sit side-by-side so comfortably. Maybe it's the experience of riding a tuk-tuk (Thai taxi) through the city while the wind whips through your hair. It could even simply be the ridiculously delicious cuisine, whether hawker-style or fine dining, that Thailand has become famed for. At any rate, vacationers to Hatyai can expect a great time even on a shoestring budget. With that said, here are 8 activities you can't miss when in Hatyai.

Things To Do In Hat Yai If You Are Not Into Shopping!
Hat Yai is the third largest metropolitan area of Thailand, located in the southern part of the country, near the Malaysian border. It was just a small village but quickly grew into a small town when the southern railway was built. Claiming to be a city, the town was finally upgraded in 1995, and since then, the city has been one of the major rail hubs on the line and is now the major business center of Songkhla province. As we all know, the country of Thailand is known for its shopping districts, with a very affordable and inexpensive goods. From fashionable clothes, cosmetics, fabrics, gadgets, imported processed foods and even electrical appliances - you name it and they have it. Hat Yai is also known as a shopping destination, for both tourists and Thais. But let us not state the obvious and walk a different path. Instead, let's check out the many things you can do if you don't have the budget for shopping - or even if you do, but you'd rather admire the beauty of the city.
