City View Trail is a 4.5-kilometer (2.7-mile) back trail that features a river on some parts of the path while the rest is surrounded by woodland. The trail is lightly trafficked and rated as moderate in difficulty. This makes it a great place for a relaxing hike or a jog through the woods.

2. Low Gap Park

Low Gap Park has a storied history and has undergone so many renovations and reuses. This 80-acre (32-hectare) parcel of land started out as a lumber mill and millworkers’ quarters. The remnants of these old buildings still stand today. Sometime later, the land became a landfill, and it wasn’t until 1955 that the dumpsite was sealed off using topsoil.

After this, the land was slowly improved and eventually became the park that stands today. The park features a plethora of facilities to accommodate many visitors to the point that you’ll barely ask yourself the question of what to do in Ukiah. Some of these facilities include a group picnic area, tennis courts, a playground, a disc golf course, an archery range, and a fenced dog park.

This Ukiah attraction is one of the best museums in the area where you can not only learn about the artistic history of Ukiah but of the artist Grace Carpenter Hudson (1865-1931) and her husband Dr. John W. Hudson (1857-1936), famed Ukiah residents who lived in the adjacent Sun House bungalow. Grace Carptenter Hudson was an accomplished artist and her husband an ethnologist. The museum houses a collection of not only Hudson’s art, but of other contemporary and local Native American art.

The buildings themselves are something to see, especially if you like historical landmarks and the beauty of older buildings. The Sun House alone was built in 1911 and, so, is more than a century old.

Admission is only 4 USD for adults and free to all the first Friday of the month.
