Though the waterfall has been around for ages, it was only recently that the popularity of Abbey Falls soared. This is because the waterfall is hidden amid a thick forest and is located on private property. Even so, its scenic charm is the very thing that sets it apart from other waterfalls and makes it one of the most popular tourist magnets in Coorg. Make sure to spend some time to do these things while you’re here!

Go trekking

You don’t have to be nature enthusiasts in order to agree that the site is a good holiday attraction. Situated near Madikeri, the sight of the waterfall from a 70-foot (21.33-meter) cliff enclosed by lush greenery is something that you don’t want to miss. Plenty of nature trails are scattered throughout the forested area surrounding the waterfall. It would be a shame not to explore them. As such, don’t forget to plan thrilling hiking through the lush greenery. Don your outdoor gear and get ready to go trekking.

Have a picnic

It’s no surprise that families love to visit the waterfall. It makes for an ideal location for a picnic. Indeed, there is no better way to enjoy the beauty of this site than picnicking. Can you imagine how great it is to sit on the fresh green grass while soaking in the warm sunlight and enjoying the sound of the waterfall? Don’t forget to prepare your food and beverages! It would be a good idea to bring sunblock and insect repellant spray as well.

Watch out for bugs and slippery slopes

While visiting the waterfall, don’t forget to slather some bug repellant lotion to avoid insect bites, especially during the summer season. Furthermore, please keep in mind that in case you plan to come here during the monsoon season, always watch your steps because the pathway that leads to the waterfall can be slippery.

Bring your own medical supplies

The stairs that descend from the ground into the falls are quite lengthy. As such, if you have any joint problems, you might want to consider bringing your own medication. Additionally, for safety reasons, visitors with respiratory diseases or any breathing ailment are not allowed to bathe in the water.

Carry light snacks

Here is a piece of good advice to keep in mind for those who want to save money on food: pack a box of light snacks or something to nibble as well as a bottle of water. Travelers with gastric problems might also want to consider taking their doctors’ advice to avoid chances of acid reflux during the journey. But if you’re not tight on budget and don’t have the time to make such preparations, don’t worry for there are also a few food stalls selling tea and light snacks along the way.
