Bali is often romanticized when depicted in movies and books due to the rich cultural traditions and dreamy setting of this island paradise in Indonesia. Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling memoir “Eat, Pray, Love” has even inspired many ladies to go to the Island of the Gods for a journey of self-discovery and spiritual healing. From my own experience, Bali is an enchanting and safe refuge for women who travel alone. I felt the warmth of home in Balinese guesthouses run by locals who treat visitors like family. There are also sociable backpacker hostels with female dorms and group activities that provide opportunities to mingle with fellow travelers. What’s more, these places offer great value for money as they often include delicious breakfasts and locations that are tailored to the needs of every guest. For a pleasant trip, browse through this list of accommodation options for solo female travelers in Bali, Indonesia.

1. Sunshine Vintage House (from USD 7)

This family-run hostel in a traditional Balinese courtyard makes its guests feel at home from the get-go, displaying a handwritten welcome note upon arrival. Sunshine Vintage House also exudes a cozy atmosphere that’s suitable for meeting other solo travelers. I loved hanging out in the hostel’s common area where I would plan my day with my new friends and eat a delightful complimentary breakfast with fresh fruits. There’s also an outdoor kitchen for making afternoon coffee and tea.

The mixed dorms are clean and equipped with air-conditioning facilities, comfortable beds, and individual curtains for privacy. The balcony is perfect for chilling out and reading a book. Nestled in the heart of Ubud, this backpacker-friendly abode is a walking distance from dining options and attractions such as the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. From here, I would take a quick stroll to The Yoga Barn for my classes and drop by the supermarket for groceries.

Aside from its central location, the best part about this hostel is its amazing owner who is hands-on in maintaining the place and accommodating the guests’ needs. He also hosts fun excursions and tours of temples and rice paddies.

2. Kapu Kapu Ubud (from USD 17)

Female travelers who want to enjoy some solitude and tranquility will be glad to stay at Kapu Kapu Ubud, a peaceful hideaway surrounded by calming natural scenery. I stayed in a double room with a lovely terrace overlooking the rice fields where I would indulge myself in my favorite reads over a cup of hot beverage. It’s also an idyllic spot for morning meditations.

The serene guesthouse offers ideal accommodation for remote workers who want to avoid distractions and have a gorgeous garden view. Free WiFi access is provided, so you can attend Zoom meetings and browse the internet with ease. As a cherry on top, the kind hosts provide a selection of mouthwatering breakfast options every morning. I would always look forward to my first meal of the day here, and my favorite was nasi goreng with eggs and fruits.

The hosts also ensure that the room is tidy every day, and they can arrange laundry services for a minimal fee. Though the abode is tucked away from the town center, you can easily book a Grab or Gojek ride if you don’t drive a motorbike.

3. Dip & Doze Boutique Hostel (from USD 12)

If you prefer to stay in a modern hostel with a great social atmosphere, this property in Canggu is an excellent choice. Dip & Doze Boutique Hostel is also a hit among party lovers as it is close to trendy bars and popular beach clubs such as Finns Beach Club and Vue Beach Club.

I stayed in a female dormitory with bunk beds and was pleased to find that each person was given a key card to make sure only the guests entered the specific rooms. Lockers are provided, too. Each floor has a separate communal bathroom for men and women.

Beat the heat in the swimming pool or head to the nearby Berawa Beach, only 900 meters (2952.76 feet) away. The staff also hosts fun-filled daily activities, which I think are awesome ways to meet other globetrotters. These include bonfire nights, family dinners, canang sari making (offerings to Hindu deities), and bar crawls. Plus, I also had the option of playing board games and beer pong in the common areas of the hostel.

4. Nang Ade House (from USD 29)

Nang Ade House is a relaxing oasis in a quiet street that’s just a short walk from Ubud’s bustling center. This guesthouse sits inside a traditional Balinese-style compound and features a breezy common area surrounded by an alluring garden. This charming nook is ideal for starting your morning with a tasty breakfast or unwinding after a day of sightseeing. At times, the friendly owner will even stop by for a chat, ensuring that guests are comfy and taken care of.

I booked the standard double room fitted with basic amenities such as bottled water and toiletries, including shampoo and shower gel. The well-furnished accommodation is air-conditioned and has a balcony that allows guests to destress whenever they feel cooped up inside the room.

On my last day in Bali, I availed of the host’s transportation services that took me to the airport on time without any hassle.
