The Ambassador Hotel located in East Jerusalem, near Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives, is a pleasant, urban hotel, that provides a quiet respite from the busy, bustling city of Jerusalem. Conveniently located near several public transportation lines, including bus and light rail, that can whisk you to the city center within minutes, there is also easy parking if you choose to park your car at this hotel. Alternatively, taxis are readily available for short or long distance travel.

Pleasant rooms

Superior room

There are three grades of room at the Ambassador Hotel. We enjoyed the Superior room, which afforded us a balcony overlooking the small garden, as well as a large room outfitted with comfortable twin beds, a kettle for making tea or coffee, and a small fridge. The decor is modern and easy on the eyes. Also included was an in-room safe, full bath, and as a special bonus, some delightful toiletries straight from the Dead Sea. The somewhat smaller Standard room comes without a balcony, but has all the other amenities. If you really want to splurge, there are Junior Suites, which we were not privy to see on our visit to the Ambassador.

Food and drink

Outdoor patio for al fresco eating

Our room came with breakfast included, and we enjoyed the wonderful olives, labane (fermented cream cheese), and olive oil, all local products, along with the more standard items such as eggs, rolls, cereal and jam. There were also several hot dishes and seasonal fruit. Black coffee and hot water were available, and for an extra charge you can get espresso or cappuccino delivered to your table. We enjoyed eating out on the large balcony overlooking the garden, which is adjacent to the main dining room, to enjoy the fresh mountain air while soaking up a little sun.

One of the most unusual features of this hotel is the draft beer served on tap, coming from the only micro-brewery on the West Bank, called Taybeh. This is a pale draft that is wonderfully thirst quenching on a hot day. It is a special treat; make sure not to miss it. Aside from the draft beer, there are beers available by bottle, as well as the standard alcoholic beverages available. The bar also has an Italian espresso machine, making strong, delicious coffee. A full service dining room serves lunch and dinner as well.

Service with a smile

Lobby bar

Entering the hotel, we were greeted by a beautiful floral display and the friendly smiles of the reception clerk. Check in was efficient and our room was ready immediately. It is worth noting that all the staff we encountered were very efficient in filling our requests and made us feel most welcome.

A most enjoyable stay

The Ambassador Hotel provided us with a most enjoyable stay in Jerusalem. The hotel is well located, the staff is eager to please and friendly, and all the amenities necessary for a comfortable visit were provided. For the business traveler or tourist, the Ambassador is a low key, convenient and most pleasant hotel.
