Upcoming events
Charleston Food + Wine Festival: Culinary enthusiasts should make their way to Charleston in early March to attend this five-day festival. Here you can savor stories, food, and wine sourced from people from all walks of life and diverse ethnicities. It’s not for no reason that Forbes hails it as one of the best annual foodie celebrations in the USA, and make sure you pick a few bottles of wine as souvenirs.
Spoleto Festival USA: Slated as one of the best performing arts festivals in the country, Spoleto Festival USA pulls the theatre culture of Charleston into focus. In its long history, it has organized more than 20 opera, dance, and theatre world premieres, and in a typical season, the festival puts up 150 (or more) performances. The festival generally extends from late May to early June. I would love to check out the festival just for the music!

Beach life in and near Charleston, South Carolina
Though Charleston has a long shoreline, most of the beaches within its city limits aren’t easily accessible, especially if you’re driving. However, barrier islands line the extremities of Charleston Bay and they offer spectacular beaches within an easy drive of downtown Charleston. Folly Beach is the one closest to downtown Charleston, and the family-friendly beach is a popular weekend destination. It’s also great for kayaking, surfing, and paddleboarding. Another popular option is the Isle of Palms, and the extensive shores are lined with recreational opportunities, live music joints, and more. I would certainly fit The Windjammer in my itinerary as it is known for its great music performances.
Though the months of June and August see the most sunshine, the humidity and heat make it best to skip these months for a vacation. However, the sands will be truly spectacular during this period. If you’d like to head to the beaches when it’s cooler, you can plan for a vacation between March and May.
