The most well-known section here is the building dedicated to South Indian Bronze sculptures, showcasing bronze figurines of several mythological and historical personas from different historical periods. Another favorite section of mine is the one with sculptures and relics from the ruin of the Buddhist stupa at Amaravati.

The aforementioned Marina Beach, the second-longest urban beach, is another must-visit if you want to feel the irresistibly infectious energy of Chennai. Brimming with a variety of stalls, the beach almost looks like a fairground from afar. I always make sure to gorge on fish fries at the food stalls, nothing beats the taste of fresh catches fried and served by the sea. Then, wash it down with a cold bottle of goli soda (flavored soda).
There is a stretch of wide pavement along the beach, interspersed with small patches of greens. This is a favorite spot for morning walkers and joggers. In the evening, you will see many stalls on the pavement as well. I never leave this spot without buying a stash of colorful glass bangles.

I swear by their pork ribs, smoked pork sticky fried, and crunchy mixed pork-veg fried rice. The meals here are served with complimentary small bowls of 'eromba' (mashed vegetables and fermented fish with chilies), green leaves, and kimchi. They have started serving Korean food recently - make sure to try the kimbap here. Another nice touch is the chilled watermelon served at the end.

How can you come to Chennai and not buy a Kanjivaram saree? Co-optex, the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers' Co-operative Society Limited, is nearby. Apart from the globally known Kanjibharam, they are known for their huge collection of cotton and silk sarees from different districts of the state and the price is much cheaper than other stores. I have bought good quality sarees for my mother and myself for 1000 INR!
Next to the store, you will find the Cooptex Exhibition Center, which houses other handloom and handicraft shops. On the other side is the Pantheon Street Cloth Market, known for an array of stalls selling trendy thrift clothes and fabric with cute and quirky prints.
