The beautiful Swiss city of St. Gallen - pronounced Sank Gallen locally - is located just south of the Lake Constance (Bodensee) in the northeastern part of Switzerland. The city was founded in between the 6th and 7th-century by an Irish monk called Saint Gallus. Legend has it that he commanded a bear to help him build a hut and in turn, he gave the bear some bread as a reward. The place he settled at eventually became the canton of St. Gallen. The most famous landmark in St. Gallen is its Baroque Cathedral and it’s Abbey Library which houses thousands of documents which are over a thousand years old.

In 1983, the whole Abbey area became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along with the cathedral, the old town is a wonderful display of 16th to 18th-century burgher houses with colorfully painted windows. There is so much to do in St. Gallen but along with the sightseeing, it is also nice to take a break and dine in at one of its many eateries and restaurants or simply hangout at a cafe. You must also try out their signature Bratwurst. Here are the top 8 places to eat in St. Gallen.

A little warning though, the locals don’t eat it with mustard so please, don’t eat it with mustard if you don’t want to be given weird looks by them.
