Known as the ‘King of Mountains’, the Matterhorn is the most photographed mountain in the world, and stands proud at 4,478 meters (14691.6 ft) tall. There are many accommodation options around the area, but for this list we’ve singled out the highest scoring hotels that feature views of the Matterhorn.

1. Hotel Metropol & Spa Zermatt (from USD 139)

This hotel and spa combo offers a friendly and relaxing atmosphere from which to enjoy your views over the Matterhorn. This family owned hotel offers comfortable, simple rooms with varying views over the Matterhorn. The best choices are the Superior Double Room, a south-facing location with excellent Matterhorn views and the Junior Suite, which has views from the balcony. Be sure to check out the spa area because even the pool has Matterhorn views… pure bliss! Be sure to book in advance though because this hotel is extremely popular.

2. Alpenhotel Fleurs de Zermatt (from USD 225)

Since this hotel was developed in 2016, it is obviously in excellent condition and boasts a sun terrace, spa, and bar. The bedrooms are simply decorated with a few surprising fun features to go alongside the pale wooden furnishing. There are 38 rooms, not all of which offer Matterhorn views, so be sure to check the full details online before you book. We recommend getting a Mattherhorn view room with a balcony so that you can enjoy it to its fullest.

3. Mont Cervin Palace (from USD 328)

First opened in 1851, this hotel is a member of “Leading Hotels of the World”, and we can see why! With an la carte restaurant, full-size pool, spa, and fitness centre, it’s perfect for a relaxation break whilst the views will leave you breathless. It’s also lovingly known as a ‘one of a kind’ hotel because there are many unique factors about it; we particularly love the red horse-drawn carriage. The views of the Matterhorn are best enjoyed from the higher level floors.

4. Grand Hotel Zermatterhof (from USD 486)

This traditional property dates back to 1879 and offers a luxurious resort including three restaurants, spa facilities, and, this time, a white horse-drawn carriage. The bedrooms are decorated in neutral white and beige colours with original wooden beams and features. Unspoiled views of the Matterhorn are best enjoyed from the double rooms, Junior Suite, and Chalet Suite.

5. Hotel Matterhorn FOCUS (from USD 361)

The views from this hotel are amazing and we particularly love the sights from any of the windows in the spacious Royal Suite. If you’ve not got the budget for a big splash out then don’t worry, because come rain or shine you can enjoy the views from the ground-floor terrace. The location, directly beside the “Matterhorn Express” valley station, is perfect for exploring the surrounding nature. If that sounds too adventurous, though, you could always relax in your open plan room or enjoy a hot chocolate in the lounge, or on a sunny day a cocktail by the outdoor pool, which also has breathtaking views!

6. Riffelhaus 1853 (from USD 470)

Using only natural materials in the rooms, we adore this unique hotel. There are two room types that offer views of the Matterhorn: the Junior Suite and double room. Be sure to check that the double room you are booking has views of the Matterhorn as some offer ‘mountain views’ only. One of our favourite places to enjoy the view is actually in the outdoor hot tub where you can rest after a long day skiing.

7. 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat (from USD 470)

This is the highest hotel in the Swiss Alps and you’ll have the views to match. The secluded hotel offers a slice of paradise from inside and outside the hotel: the bedrooms are comfortable and spacious with wooden red trim and no matter where you are in the hotel, we promise you unparalleled views of Matterhorn and the surrounding area.

8. Parkhotel Beau Site (from USD 126)

If you’re looking for excellent views alongside some peace and quiet, then this hotel would be perfect for you. Parkhotel Beau Site offers not only panoramic mountain views but also indoor pool and spa facilities. It is important to check out the room options online as not all views cover Matterhorn, but we know that our favourite, the Matterhorn Alpine Chic Suite does, but there are many other options available.

9. The Omnia (from USD 421)

Nestled ontop of a rock, 148 feet (45 metres) above the roofs of central Zermatt, the best view of Matterhorn from this hotel has to be, in our opinion, from the outdoor hot tub. None of the rooms are identical and so they vary in terms of size; some even have a private balcony. The best private view is from the Matterhorn Suite but there are plenty of lower-priced options available. It is worth noting that there is a minimum stay at the hotel.

10. Romantik Hotel Julen (from USD 313)

In a traditional tavern setting, all of the rooms have a private balcony. There is a three-storey spa area with fitness suite and comfortable seating areas. Only selected rooms offer the Mattherhorn view and the best is the Romantik Double Room. This hotel has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere that you really won’t want to leave.
