The city of Anasco sits close to the west coast of the island, and many rivers and mountains surround it, the tallest being the Canta Gallo, standing at 1214 feet (370 meters). Barceloneta (Little Barcelona) is a small town, covering about 32 square miles (82.9 square kilometers) and the last founded by the Spanish – 8 years before the island became a part of the U.S. in 1889. The city is bounded to the east by Manati and the west by Arecibo, and many of the major attractions in the region are part of Barceloneta. Some of these places of interest include Hacienda La Esperanza Natural Reserve, Cano Tiburones Marshland, and Cambalache State Forest. The location is known for one more thing – outlet shopping. 20. San German
San German is the oldest city on the island after San Juan and features colonial Creole structures, similar to those in Old San Juan and Ponce. Loiza is the Afro-Caribbean soul of the island, initially dominated by the Yoruba slaves from Africa in the 16th century. Although the town only has a few places of interest, one main reason people visit is Pinones – a ward in the region situated along the Loiza route from San Juan. It is a recreational beachfront spot lined by local eateries and kiosks – including the famous El Boricua. Some of the top attractions in the location include the Maria de la Cruz Cave, where items of the first inhabitants were discovered, and the San Patricio Church, built in 1645 and included in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Utuado is a historical region perched on the hilly central part of the island.
