Loughman was on the route of the Dixie Highway, which ran parallel to the line of US 17/92 and is now Old Kissimmee Road (Old Tampa Highway north of the Osceola County line). A monument dated 1930 marks the Polk County line with the nearby remains of the brick-paved highway.

The Circle B Bar Reserve is an area of protected lands in Polk County, Florida, comprising 1,267 acres (5.13 square kilometers) at 4399 Winter Lake Road (SR 540) near Lakeland, Florida. Many wildlife and birds found their home here in the preserve, you may expect to see white ibis, roseate spoonbills, sandhill cranes, bald eagles, alligators, bobcats, snakes, gray squirrels, river otters and wild hogs.

It has been designated as a Great Florida Birding Trail site under the program of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The Polk’s Nature Discovery Center was built inside the reserve to provide environmental education featuring interactive displays about the plants, animals, and ecosystems of the reserve.

You can now hike at the Marshall Hampton Reserve on the newly opened first section of Panther Point Trail, a 5-mile (8-kilometer) nature trail, overlooking Lake Hancock. The trail winds through oak hammocks, pastures, wetlands and artificial lakes providing visitors the best site for wildlife viewing and nature photography. It is also suitable for hiking, running, off-road biking and horseback riding.

7. Martin Luther King Jr. Park

Martin Luther King Jr. Park is perfect for family picnics, fishing from the shoreline, sports outings, or just walking along the trail surrounding the lake. It houses Rollins College Women’s Softball Team and a leading-edge softball facility. It also has two basketball courts, two football/soccer fields, one multipurpose field and ample facilities for outings and events. Look out for the latest events at the park when you are there.

From Loughman, you can take a 19-minute drive to the family’s favorite Walt Disney World in Orlando. Staying in Loughman and visiting Walt Disney World (the largest complex under Walt Disney companies) is a good money saver for families. Walt Disney World Orlando occupies 27,258 acres (110 square kilometers), about the size of San Francisco, or twice the size of Manhattan. You can get around by monorail, ferries or by walking.
