1. Augsburger Puppenkiste
Getting a ticket for one of the Puppenkiste shows is a must if you want to really experience Augsburg. Even though the performances are in German, do not let that intimidate you; you can choose a classic fairy tale and just enjoy the visual experience. Booking in advance is needed. After the show, there is a marionette museum that holds an enormous and very complete collection. Don’t forget to check it out.

2. Fuggerei
The first social housing project, the Fuggerei, was created by a visionary, Jackob “The Rich” Fugger in 1517. This little city within a larger city, Augsburg, holds 67 buildings, 147 apartments and a church. Even though it was damaged in WWII, it still holds its charm. 3. Augsburg Rathaus
Towering over the city, Augsburg City Hall is impossible to miss. Not only is it one of the most important Renaissance buildings with a secular purpose, but it also holds the city’s history museum. Once inside, take note of the majestic door frames. One of its highlights is the Goldener Saal, an elegant hall covered with murals and a high coffered ceiling. You can also visit the Prince’s rooms, today used for political meetings and administrative offices.

4. Bertolt Bretch House
This house museum celebrates the life and plays of author and thinker Bertolt Bretch. It was opened to celebrate 100 years from his birth. It is a very interesting visit because you can see not only how he lived there, but also real size photos of his interaction with the town. 6. Augsburg's Cathedral
St. Mary’s Cathedral is one of Augsburg’s main attractions. It dates from the 11th-century and has some Gothic additions that were made in the 14th-century, but traces of older structures were found under it in some excavations. Visit the cathedral to see the beautiful and fine stained glass windows. One of its main attractions is the 11th-century bronze door that now is shown in the museum. It has 35 panels with scenes of the Old and New Testament.

7. Rafting on the Eiskanal
This artificial water course was built for the Olympic games to practice canoe slalom, a sport practiced with canoes and kayaks. Besides strolling next to it and enjoying this wonder, you can raft in it. Just find one of the two clubs that organize those kinds of excursions and dive into the canal!

8. St. Anna Kirche
This medieval church with golden decorations is a great spot to visit because of its important historic value. This is were Martin Luther found sanctuary in 1518. Before that it was a Carmelite convent. It became a protestant church after Luther’s interventions. Today it holds a musuem that portrays a very important part of the history of religion.

9. Maximilianmuseum
The Maximilian Museum is a public museum that lies in the middle of Augsburg, between the Town Hall and St. Anna Kirche. Its selection of decorative art is very interesting and goes from the Middle Ages to the modern era. The building is an attraction in itself, since it is a 15th-century upper class family residence. There are more than 30 rooms that hold paitings, gold figureines and sculptures among other things. You should definitely visit the museum. It is open between Tuesday and Wednesday (Tuesday: 10 am to 8 pm. Wednesday: 10 am to 10 pm).

10. St. Ulrich's and St. Afra's Abbey
This Abbey is known to be one of the most attractive churches in all of Bavaria for its elaborate decoration and beauty. It used to be a Benedictine abbey dedicated to these two saints, but after the 16th-century, it became one of the imperial abbeys of the Holy Roman Empire. You can visit the inside of St. Afra Church inside the abbey, which is the one with more elaborate Baroque decorations. There is a shared crypt between the two churches which is the resting place of the two saints that give the name to the abbey.
