Swannanoa Valley Museum reflects the history of Western North Carolina. Exhibits in the museum include photos and artifacts, which depict the lives of the early pioneers and their descendants, as well as the development and growth of towns in the valley. The museum sponsors numerous guided hikes and walks, heritage tours, and special programs and events of historical or environmental interest.

Lake Tomahawk is one of the best Black Mountain attractions. This picturesque lake, with great spots for fishing, strolling, and golfing is close to the heart of the town. A senior center, tennis courts, and a public swimming pool sit on its north end, along with a large covered picnic pavilion and a gazebo, while its southern end has a small wooded picnic area. This is a versatile place, with something for everyone who is traveling through the area.

3. Sourwood Festival
The Sourwood Festival is one of the best Black Mountain activities to experience. 6. Point Lookout Trail

Point Lookout Trail is a 3.6-mile (5.8-kilometer) paved path, winding through the woods, with serene views of the mountains, railroad, and forest. Enjoy a round of golf on the par 71, 18 hole course before stopping in at the 19th Hole Grill. They serve delicious meals and refreshments. The views of the greens and the mountains make for a very pleasant few hours. The course is interesting as some of the greens are downhill, while others are uphill. The Town Square in Black Mountain was awarded for excellence. This charming square is set in beautiful gardens, with benches to sit on and enjoy the outdoors. There’s a splash fountain for the kids, clean ablutions, and sculptures. This little oasis is right across the road from quaint shops, potteries, cafe’s, restaurants, and clothing stores. There’s a delightful ice cream shop that’s handy after the kids have run around and had some fun in the gardens. The square is well worth a visit for shopping and for taking time out to relax.
