Although the word “castle” is part of its name, this is actually a fortress and not just any fortress, but the largest one in Slovenia. The Old Castle Celje is located on top of a hill, about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) away from the city center. Walking up is a good easy workout that should take about half an hour. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see some medieval music concerts on the premises, as these are organized during summer. Although it’s not furnished inside, getting up to the castle is definitely worth it even if just for the amazing view over the city.
