1. Valleytown Cultural Arts and Historical Center

The home of Valleytown Cultural Arts & Historical Society is a repurposed historical building on the corner of Third and Chestnut streets. It has been the cultural arts center’s refuge since 1986 in providing a performing and visual arts entertainment facility for the community. Valleytown Cultural Arts & Historical Society helps preserve local history by continuously offering cultural arts programming and has provided manifold arts events showcasing local and national artists to the Andrews community.

On the mezzanine level of the building, it features the Andrews Art Museum where local and regional artists exhibit their works. This museum serves as an opportunity to promote Andrews, North Carolina, as a notable arts destination.

Searching for antiques and unique vintage items that will compliment your mountain home? Head over to Nancy’s Treasures at 983 Main Street to find the perfect pieces. It is an Andrews landmark that opened in 2014 and is named after its proprietor, Nancy Purser. She is very hands-on in her shop and will be happy to tell you about the area.

The quaint little shop features local items and internationally sourced antiques and collectibles. You’ll find a variety of interesting furniture, quilts, jewelry, garden and yard art, and Nancy’s sweet dog, Luella. With Andrews Valley’s rich history and heritage, you will discover something to keep from Nancy’s Treasures.

If you’re interested in art, you should pay a visit to the Andrews Art Museum. It’s home to the Andrews Valleytown Cultural Arts and Historical Society. The museum features a wonderful collection of works by artists from North Carolina and other parts of the country and is also the main venue for contemporary art exhibitions in Andrews.

You can expect to see all types of artwork in the museum, ranging from oil paintings to fabric art. Exhibitions of work by famous contemporary artists are held throughout the year, and some of the featured ones include Annette Rawlings, Michael Grieagraber, Georgiana Ireland, Diane Lewis-Bishop, Philip Catania, Diane Leon, Layla Fanucci, and Areca Whatmore. Artists such as these notable people keep the arts industry in Andrews very much alive.

4. Nantahala National Forest

The Nantahala National Forest has a total managed area of more than 212,000 hectares (530,000 acres), and it’s the largest national forest in North Carolina. It is located in a mountainous region in the western part of the state and is home to the well-known Nantahala Outdoor Center and the mighty Nantahala River. It was voted the best destination for water activities by National Geographic Magazine.

Visitors to the Nantahala National Forest can indulge in many different types of outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, fishing, biking, mountaineering, whitewater rafting and others. There are hundreds of miles of trails within the forest, leading to numerous waterfalls, lakes, scenic lookout points and other natural attractions. Some of the points of interest that are popular among adventurers include the Whiteside Mountain, Wayah Bald, the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and the Whitewater Falls, which is the highest waterfall in the eastern part of the Rocky Mountains. Andrews is situated close to many of the well-known attractions around the Nantahala National Forest.

5. Walker Inn

The Walker Inn is a well-known historic site in Andrews. It’s a log building that was established in 1840, and it was once a popular stop for stage coaches traveling between Murphy and Asheville. Many features of the building, such as the windows, ceiling beams, and door latches, date back to the time of the original construction. Within the compound of the inn, you will also see a historic shed.

6. Calaboose Cellars

In the shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains, there’s an old stone building with bars on the windows that overlooks our small vineyard. Legend has it that the local lawman locked up the hooligans here to cool down until they went before the magistrate. Now they use the Calaboose to keep their wines.

7. Ferncrest Winery

Located just a few miles from the Nantahala River, Greystone House is very close to all the area’s events and activities. Greystone is available for our fly fishing customers looking for a nice place to unwind! The house is nestled on 6.4 hectares (16 acres) of private woodland with its own small private steam. Shabby chic farmhouse decor in a comfortable place of rest.

Greystone is fully furnished and has genuine hickory wood flooring throughout the house, WiFi, telephone, washer and dryer, Direct TV, and a movie collection. The master bedroom has its own bathroom. The guest room has a queen sized bed with a private bathroom.

The children’s room has two twin beds and a book and toy collection. Perfect for families with young children. The living room has a wood burning fireplace and leather recliners. The back patio is covered with a gas grill. We provide complimentary coffee and tea.

11. RidgeRunner Ziplines

It is a great place to zip line! Easy to find, simple instructions, easy to maneuver, not difficult at all. They even have a couple lines you could play on and do tricks like yelling out like Tarzan, flipping upside down and bouncing a little. They have fun guides, Robert and Tim who joke, explain things clearly and make the entire two-hour visit enjoyable. The hiking part will be minimal.

12. Andrews Disc Golf Course

Grab your frisbee head out to the free Frisbee golf course. Parking is available at the rec park in Andrews. Then you just have to walk out to the first pin and start playing. Eighteen holes await you and the views of mountains and the river make the adventure more than just a game. They really have done a great job on the course making it fun, challenging and very entertaining. The Heritage Park Disc Golf Club meets once a week so make sure you go when the course is a little less full.
