This city of 85,000 people, which sits just a few kilometres to the west of Fort Lauderdale and whose name derives from earlier efforts to establish a rice plantation in the area, only dates back to the 1930s - but experienced a huge growth spurt in the 1950s, ‘60s and '70s and today is a thriving and diverse community in its own right. It is also well-placed for those looking to explore Florida’s famous Everglades landscape, with the Everglades & Francis S.
