Medellin, like many other cities in Colombia, can offer you great coffee, nice people to hang around with, and tropical weather that will make you want to stay. It also features hostels and Airbnb vacation rentals where you can stay during your vacation. However, Medellin is also known for its famous nightlife. At night, the city comes alive with great music, partygoers and some of the best night clubs in the country. There are, of course, some other things you can do at night, in Medellin, that will not necessarily mean going to a night club. Let’s explore the city and find out what some of these things are!

1. Enjoy some chupitos at Parque Lleras

The first thing you need to know, if are planning to jump into Medellin’s incredibly varied nightlife, is that there will be no chance for you to be socially awkward. Get ready to meet new people everywhere you go - even if you go out with friends, you will always meet new people, especially if you decide to go to Parque Lleras. This is the safest and arguably the most obvious choice for nightlife in Medellin. Many say this is the perfect place to see and to be seen, as it is packed with nightclubs, bars and coffee shops. So try some “chupitos”, or shots, at Parque Lleras - they’ll be sure to get you started on your journey through Medellin’s amazing nightlife.

The great thing about this bar in the beautiful area of Poblado is that it is a regular coffee shop during the day, however, at night, it turns into this marvelous, hidden, secret place. Altagracia CAFÉ-BAR features house beats and a very different take on drinks, that makes this place stand out from other nearby bars. The modern decor, along with the excellent taste in music, will make you want to come back to Altagracia, again and again. It feels like navigating through two different worlds, and you’ll enjoy both of them to the fullest.

If you are in the mood to see a great play, one of the best things to do in Medellin is to check out El Pequeño Teatro. It was created by a group of well-established, professional actors, who wanted to offer Medellin a place where people can take in some culture and enjoy a piece of theatrical reflection. El Pequeño Teatro offers a permanent season of performing art, through plays. Check out their website to see what’s on during your visit.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just want to enjoy a foamy cup of coffee, while talking to friends, through the night. If you’re looking for a relaxed mid-week social night, Café Zorba is the right place for you. It is, as many call it, an incredible, artsy café, with delicious pizza. It opened back in 2010, and it is very popular with both locals and foreigners. Interestingly, the café’s decor is kind of rough and somewhat unfinished, but that gives it an edgy vibe. Zorba is really committed to supporting local talent and offers its visitors a cozy, little coffee shop that serves awesome coffee, tea, and pizza.

Imagine visiting several clubs, having some drinks, taking some salsa lessons, and all in one night. Well, you can get all of this and more, if you do the Pub Crawl Paisa. This is a great option to look forward to, every Friday night. You will be able to visit a lot of bars, get some outstanding value on drinks, and get to listen to great music, all the way to the last bar. Sometimes it might feel a bit rushed, but that doesn’t take away the fun of the Pub Crawl Paisa experience.

7. Dance the night away at Sixttina

Editor’s note: Establishment is permanently closed.

Sixttina is probably one of the hottest and most famous clubs in Medellin. Want to know why? Well, it is placed in the rear of the RIO SUR Mall, which has a semi-circular shape. The DJ booth is in the center of the club, and it is the focal point for all partygoers. You’ll enjoy excellent electronic music, mixed with reggaeton. It is definitely a great place to go out to dance, enjoy some drinks and maybe even see J Balvin, live. Awesome, right?

8. Get hyped at El Pub de Octavia

Editor’s note: Establishment is permanently closed.

Many people say this pub is designed with a style that is both simple and unique. The great thing about El Pub de Octavia is that it is made to be a place to hang out with friends, have some drinks and enjoy some rock, urban music, and classics of the 80’s and 90’s. The interior decor, as well as the bar itself, is red, so there is a warm, yet funky vibe to this club. El Pub de Octavia is one of those places where you can dance, talk loudly if you want, and let the rhythm of the night guide you. So, there is no time to waste. Drop by El Pub de Octavia, while you are in Medellin.

It is always nice to see how creative people can turn things like an old warehouse into a great venue, where you can have some fun. That is exactly how Trilogia Live Bar came about. I like the unpredictability of this place, as the live music here can be anything from classic rock to salsa in a matter of seconds, so there is always something new for visitors to enjoy. Both the patrons and the staff are friendly, so you will find yourself in a rather nice atmosphere, with fun locals.
