If you are in Monroe, NC in the fall season, be sure to stop at Aw Shucks Farms. The farm is only open for general admission in the fall. All other season it is by reservation only for groups, field trips, or parties. But it is absolutely worth a stop! During that time, Aw Shucks Farm has an excellent corn maze, hayrides, paddle boats, horseshoes, and corn hole. There is an animal barn to explore, an 1800s train, a kids play area, and a tumbleweed roll. Aw Shucks Farms is definitely one of a kind. It has so much to offer, for all ages! There is food that is appropriate for the season and always tasty. Aw Shucks Farms has so much to see and do, you definitely will not want to miss it!

2. Southern Range Brewing Co.

Southern Range Brewing Co. is a great spot for craft beer. They have a nice selection of draft beer, generally 6 to 8 of their own plus some extras from other breweries. There is nice seating inside and out, offering a great place to hand out with friends or family. Food is not available at the venue, but food is within walking distance or you can bring it with you to begin with. Sometimes food trucks park outside. Live music and trivia are also offered here at Southern Range Brewing Company.

3. Wise Acres Organic Strawberry Farm

Wise Acres Organic Strawberry Farm is a USDA certified organic u-pick strawberry and pumpkin farm. A visit to Wise Acres includes the chance to pick your own pumpkin, take a wagon ride through the woods, explore the corn maze, and meet the farm animals. There is a barrel train available for the youngsters. Organic fruit juice, popcorn, cotton candy, and pizza is available for the family to enjoy. Wise acres has local produce available for purchase as well.

4. Stallings Park
Stallings Park is 20 minutes from downtown Monroe. It offers plenty of fun for the whole family. One of the favorite activities for the kiddos is the Stallings Fountain, which is a splash pad the kids can run and play around in. The fountain runs sporadically through out the summer months, so be sure to consult the web page before heading out. There are several walking paths in and around the park, also good for bike riding. Covered pavilions are also available for rent. Playground here in Stallings Park are divided up by age, with the toddler area being gated. Restrooms are available.

5. Hilton Vineyard

Hilton Vineyard has a retail store that is open six days a week, all day long for wine tastings. Wine tastings cost $5. Staff is knowledgeable and informative about both the wine and the vineyard. Hilton Vineyard grows all their own produce, along with harvesting, fermenting and bottling it all themselves. They have 17 different wine flavors, ranging from sweet to dry. They also have wine slushies.

6. Sweet Union Flea Market

Sweet Union Flea Market is the largest flew market in the larger Charlotte area. It takes place mostly outside, with over 300 vendors. There is also an indoor portion of the Sweet Union Flea Market to be explored. It is open every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm (Saturdays), 4:00 pm (Sundays). An indoor restaurant is onsite and there are plenty of scrumptious food vendors. Restrooms are available at Sweet Union Flea Market.

7. Treehouse Vineyards

Treehouse Vineyards is a family owned Vineyard and Winery, opened to the public in 2010, open 7 days a week. They offer hand crafted wines, several of which are award winning Native Muscadine Wines. The name Treehouse Vineyards comes from the tree houses that are placed throughout the vineyard. The tree houses are available to be rented in hourly time slots. Papa’s Dream treehouse is available for overnight rentals. The tree houses overlook the vineyards and/or other beautiful things in the area. Daily wine tastings & tours are offered from 12 - 6 pm at top of each hour. Wine Maker’s Tours are offered daily at 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30 pm. Non alcoholic drinks, gourmet treats, and gift baskets are available at Treehouse Vineyards as well. There is often entertainment or live music in the evenings at Treehouse Vineyards.

8. Morrow Mountain State Park
Morrow Mountain State Park is a distance north of down town Monroe, but it is absolutely worth a look if you enjoy the outdoors. The area is absolutely beautiful. Whether you choose to visit for a day to hike, paddle board, or swim or if you choose to camp over night, you are sure to have a good time. It is one of the highest points in the piedmont, offering lovely views around the area. There are over 15 miles of hiking trails, 16 miles of bridle trails, and a boathouse with canoes and rowboats.

9. Cane Creek Park
At Cane Creek Park, visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities. Fishing, boating, and hiking are just a few of the options here. Sheltered picnic areas are available, as are ball fields, playground, and canoe and rowboat rentals. Mountain bike and horse trails are also plentiful at Cane Creek Park. There is even mini golf here, though hours are limited. A campground is available as well if visitors desire to camp on site.
