Penglai once was a county in Yantai city, and now is the county-level city in Shandong Province. Situated at Shandong Peninsula, bordering Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, Penglai city is easily transported to by car. Due to its charming landscape, Penglai has long been famed as the “Heaven on earth” and the “Habitat of immortals” since ancient times. Penglai has become a popular tourist destination because of the mysterious Penglai Mountain, which can only be seen in the form of the frequent mirages at sea, and it is said to be the base for the Eight Immortals in Chinese mythology.
1. Penglai Pavilion
Penglai Pavilion is located in the Danya Mountain of Beibin Sea in Penglai city, built in the sixth year of the Jiayou period of Northern Song Dynasty (1061 AD). The grand ancient buildings consist of Penglai Pavilion, Tianhou Palace, Longwu Palace, lvzu Palace, Sanqing Palace, Mituo Temple and some outbuildings.
There are numerous paintings, art works, and inscriptions of famous scholars in the pavilion. Penglai Pavilion faces the south; it is a wooden building with double-deck structure, colorful pictures and carved girders. There are 16 pillars standing down below the pavilion and a delicate corridor on top.

2. Penglai Water City
Penglai Water City is located in east Danya Mountain of the northwest urban area. It all started as the birthplace for a warship in the year 1042, then in the year 1376 the water city was built on the base of the former Daoyuzhai, presenting an irregular oblong whose south part is wider than its north part.
Seaport and defense buildings are preserved well here, such as a floodgate, breakwater, wave-calming console, dock, lighthouse, rampart, emplacement, moat and so on. It is the most comprehensive existing ancient naval base in China.

3. Ocean Aquarium of Penglai
Have you been to the Ocean Aquarium of Penglai? Spend 2-3 hours at the Ocean Aquarium of Penglai. It is a big water park with different sea creatures and has interesting shows, especially the “mermaid show”. The place seems like a maze with many levels. There is also crocodiles and dolphins. They also have a gift shop inside where customers can buy souvenirs of their travels.

4. Magic Eight Immortals Temple

A place for interesting and historic buildings, with lots of legends and history regarding their old culture and history, religious beliefs and the Taoist Temple. It is a treasure of old history and on the top you can see the Pagoda. Being the largest and best know Taoist Temple in Xi'an, every 14th of the fourth month and every ninth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, Taoist pilgrims converge at the temple to attend the annual temple fair that lasts for 3 days and includes a grand worshipping ceremony.

5. Penglai Tianhengshan Cultural Park
It is a huge complex with many beautiful displays of art and carvings and temples with beautiful gardens. Sometimes there will be cultural shows that you can watch here, depending on the schedule of events. Penglai Tianhengshan Cultural Park is also near different hotels and rentals so you can enjoy your stay and visit this attraction at the same time.

Located east of Penglai Pavilion, the museum faces the south and was built in 1990, an imitation of ancient park-style buildings. The front door of the museum is a decorated archway in traditional style, with a glazed tile roof and door top inscriptions saying ‘free vision’. On the west side of the gate there is inlaid marble steel with the carving ‘Ancient ships museum in Dengzhou’ on it.
The museum is sub-divided into three parts. One of them displays some unearthed relics found in 1984 including the war ship of Yuan Dynasty, the wooden and stone anchorage of Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty, rosewood tiller of Ming Dynasty and other kinds of ancient anchors. Another hall displays some cultural relics found in Xiaohai, including gallipot of Loongshan culture, a tripodia pot of Yueshi culture, pottery vases of the Western Han Dynasty, etc, with 79 pieces in total, and two copper cannons casted in the 8th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1375).

7. Penglai New Port
Penglai New Port is located at the East Economic Development Zone Gang Estuaries, Penglai 265602, China. It is also a site for boardwalks, sights and landmarks, and you can see the Long Beach and cliffs from here, which is a very nice place for a walk and to spend the afternoon. This new port is the access for all of their eCommerce and trading transactions and even provides access in and out of Penglai.

8. Dengzhou Ancient City

The Red Cliffs of the area are reputed to have been the site where the Eight Immortals set out for the land of the immortals and where the First Emperor (Shi Huangdi) later sent off five hundred boys and five hundred girls on ships to search for them. Now it signifies the old city which offers a piece of ancient history, architecture and religious significance and an overall view of Penglai.
