One would not imagine great white sandy beaches, warm weather, thrilling amusement parks and all-round fun experiences in South Shields but that is exactly what you get when you visit this seaside town in Britain. From adventurous kid activities, concerts, nature treks, water activities, family activities, you name it, South Shields will not disappoint. Its many castles and forts form great backgrounds and sites for memorable concerts for music ranging from rock to classical, welcoming myriads of young and old appreciators of music. The unspoiled beaches have helped many get in touch with their inner child as they squeal in delight on surfboards or simply splash around in the waters. A coastal town full of life. You will never have nothing to do at South Shields. For some inspiration, the following are some of the best things to do in South Shields.

Water fun

1. Haven Point

In my honest opinion, a combination of water, great sun and a gang of people ready to have fun is the recipe for a day filled with laughter, squeals of joy and fun. You can get all these at Haven Point. They have an array of jet sprays, water slides and so many other fun water features for the whole family to enjoy. If you are a competitive lot, head over to their competition pool which is used for teaching and training swimmers.

2. Wet N Wild

Getting ready to open for another fun packed day at Wet n Wild today - Open from 10am until 5pm - It's drenched in fun!

Posted by Wet 'N Wild on Sunday, 9 July 2017

The name says it all; a day filled with water fun getting wet and wild. Recreate a tropical waterfall somewhere in the Bahamas at one of their ten indoor waterfalls, or plunge down the Kamikaze drop, or ‘spin right round baby right round’ on The Tornado (sorry not sorry, I just had to). Wet N Wild has an array of rides, slides, whirlpools and pools of fun for all ages.

3. Tynemouth Priory and Castle

Imagine walking through a 2,000 year old castle! That is what you get at Tynemouth Priory and Castle. The castle was built in such a way that it oversaw the River Tyne and the North Sea, dominating the landscape. As you walk the castle corridors, learn about its history, its Anglo-Saxon beginnings, how it was used as an Anglican monastery, how it housed royalty, how it became the most fortified castle in the area and fast forward to the First World War and the Second World War where the castle’s battery guns were used to defend River Tyne - so much historical knowledge to take in.

After the whole wonder of the castle has fizzled down, the kids can prance around at the adventure playground recreating the castle’s defense strategy. Take note that to get to the castle you should prepare yourself for a rather tasking uphill climb, some of which on cobblestones, to get to the castle, so especially if you are with kids, you just might have to carry them up.

5. John Simpson Kirkpatrick Memorial Statue

He was an Australian hero known to many as The Man with the Donkey. His repute formed when he took it upon himself to rescue hundreds of Kiwi and Aussie soldiers who were wounded at the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 with the help of his donkey. His young and gallant life was snuffed away from him by a sniper bullet cutting short his brave and selfless life at the mere age of 22. A statue was erected in his honor in South Shields, where one can go and learn more about him and his feat of bravery.
