Subic will remind you of beaches, water sports, and peaceful environments. There’s no traffic and the streets are immaculately clean; there’s no place like it in Manila. It’s a haven for most people, yet there’s more to it than meets the eye. Behind the controlled and safe environment of Subic is a place full of exciting adventures. Come see the other side of Subic Bay with these 7 best things to do:

1. Zoobic Safari

You can’t miss this in Subic. The zoo is perfect for children and adults alike. Zoobic Safari will let you come face to face with a real, carnivorous animal – the Siberian and Bengal tiger. You can watch them being fed by trainers while inside a caged vehicle. You can even feel their weight as some of them jump on top of the vehicle. The safari will let you see wildlife animals like potbellies, wild boars, and ostriches, and you can interact with camels, monkeys, deer, and much more.

Kids will be fascinated with the Muzooem, a rich collection of real animal bones and preserved skins. They will also be entertained at Rodent World, where they can see a collection of rodents. It may not be lovely to look at for some kids, but they will surely be informed. Bird Walk will let you feed birds; don’t worry, they won’t bite. If you want to explore the world of snakes, satisfy your curiosity at Serpentarium. They have quite a collection of serpents. You will be awed.

2. JEST (Jungle Environment Survival Training)

Ever wondered how to survive when you get lost in the woods? This training will show you how. JEST is based on the program implemented by the US Military during the war. The Aetas, who have extensive experience surviving in the jungle, will teach you how to make use of bamboo and a bolo to make fire. They will show you how to identify safe and dangerous plants to eat and which ones to use as medicines, so you will know how to survive in the jungle without getting sick. There are three levels for this training – the quick training, overnight experience, and the comprehensive 3-day program. The latter may not be suitable to those who are not in good shape.

The JEST Camp also includes a bird park, butterfly garden, a native restaurant, and a Subic Freeport view deck. Come look at the beautiful butterflies and have a good meal at their restaurant. If you’re not scared of heights, then you can try the Goliath Swing to swing you over a cliff. You will be amazed with the view of the Subic Bay.

The Tree Drop Adventure Ride will allow you to repel down a tall tree. You will be given three style options – the lizard, conventional or face-first style. Some just choose to simply jump. 5. Wreck Diving

Satisfy your curiosity about the ships that sunk during WWII. In Subic, there are about a dozen of them. Most are from the US Navy; some ships are from the Japanese. There is also a patrol boat from the Japanese that sunk and it’s found south of the port. Other small ships from the US Navy were sunk by storms. The waters here are not crystal-clear compared to other beaches in the Philippines; this is more of a historical site that’s found under the sea. It’s still an adventure nevertheless!

6. Parasailing

If you want to know what it feels like to be 120 m (400 feet) above the ground with a real parachute attached to your back, then try parasailing. Fly high while being pulled by an advanced parasail boat in Subic. You can parasail either alone or with a partner while your friends can watch, take photos or videos on the boat. Subic Bay Parasailing has been in business for over 30 years. Safety is their first priority, that is why they only use high-tech equipment like a Nordic parasail boat. This truly is an extreme adventure.

Be delighted and fascinated with dolphins and other sea creatures at the Ocean Adventure Park. The Dolphins and Friends Show will let you see and interact with dolphins, sea lions, and seals. They can even perform in front of you. The Swim Encounter will let you swim with the dolphins. It’s a 45-minute experience wherein you can swim and ride on the back of a trained dolphin. You can even hug them and take photos.

At the theater area, sea lions can perform by playing ball and clapping with the trainers. You will be enthralled by them. Do not forget to visit the Ocean Discovery Aquarium if you want to see coral reefs, caves, sea horses, sea snakes and many other exotic marine animals. If you have questions about the ocean, go visit the Learning Center and be informed.
