Take in the wonderful ocean breeze and catch some nice fish at Dike Beach. The majestic waters of Galveston Bay await you as this beach offers a clean, serene, and soothing place to simply sit back, relax, and take in the fresh air.

Unfortunately, the currents can be rough and swimming is strongly discouraged. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun on this beach as you can still put up a beach chair and relax on the sand or go fishing by the water.

On April 16, 1947, the French vessel SS Grandcamp caught fire and detonated its payload of ammonium nitrate, which caused a series of other explosions that engulfed the city. This devastating event is considered to be one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history.

Texas City Memorial Park stands today as both a memorial and a soothing place to rest. SS Grandcamp’s anchor and the burial site of the unidentified victims are openly displayed for visitors to see. Both of these serve as solemn reminders of the incident.
