Vianden Castle is a monument considered to be of the utmost importance, not only to the country of Luxembourg but to the whole of Europe. The castle has been the host to a number of influential members of society in Vianden and sits proudly in the north of Luxembourg. It boasts Gothic features and has been restored a number of times after it collapsed into ruins.

Vianden Castle sits proudly at a height of 310 metres (1017.1 feet) and dominates the town of Vianden. The views from the top of the castle are unlike anything else and you can see the breathtaking sight of the picturesque town below. Both the exterior and interior of the castle are beautiful and a definite must-see if you’re ever visiting Vianden.

2. National Museum of Military History

This museum contains a number of exciting exhibits, regarding the military, including vehicles and weapons, a photo gallery and a host of displays featuring dedications to military servicemen. The most significant events of the Battle of the Bulge are brought back to life here, with the support of super-sized dioramas, and you can fully enjoy soaking up a whole lot of culture, with a visit to the National Museum.

An exhibition space of over 3000 square metres (32291.7 square feet) provides the space for numerous life-size dioramas, which enable visitors to see the tragic situations that both soldiers and civilians were caught up in. You can also see a huge collection of uniforms, weapons and a whole lot of military equipment.

3. Vianden Chairlift

The Vianden Chairlift rises to a height of 440 metres (1443.6 feet) and provides visitors with exquisite views, on a thoroughly memorable trip. You can enjoy panoramic views of the gorgeous city and relax on the ascent, as you bask in the beauty of your surroundings.

Return fees for adults are priced at just 4.80 EUR (5.64 USD), so it’s really a remarkable bargain to experience everything that the chairlift offers! Opening times: 10 am- 5 pm, April to October.

4. Musée Littéraire 'Victor Hugo'

This museum offers visitors the chance to discover Victor Hugo’s house in Vianden, as well as a wealth of information about his work and life. You can also see exhibitions of his paintings, texts and several of his possessions. Hugo’s memory has remained alive, through this museum and it has truly preserved all the wonderful things about his life.

5. Musée d’Histoire de la Ville de Vianden

This fascinating museum provides a riveting experience and exhibits historical and cultural artefacts and mannequins. While the museum is all in German, you can request the English-language accompanying text, in order to fully understand every aspect of the museum. Learn about the history of the 1000-year-old town, as well as gain insight into 18th and 19th century interiors, something which the Musée d’Histoire de la Ville de Vianden captures perfectly.

You can gain entry to the museum for as little as 3 EUR (3.53 USD), which seems like a very reasonable price to pay for all the exciting culture you’ll experience here!

7. Grand Rue

The most attractive part of the Grand Rue is around the Place Victor Abens, where the town hall stands, alongside a small spring. Around this area, you can find a beautiful church and a gorgeous cloister, that was once at the heart of the Trinitarian Monastery. There are also spectacular views to be seen from the top of the stairway.
