Other treasures with traces of medieval architecture include Albaicín, Granada Cathedral, and Corral del Carbón. Apart from trying out exciting things to do, you can jazz up your trip by choosing a fitting retreat to make it more memorable. Corral del Carbón

In Granada, there are hidden jewels tucked amidst urban architecture, and Corral del Carbón, only 1.6 km (1 mi) away from the hotel, is one of them. To enter this place is to travel in time to the past. Visit the new shed, leave your horse in a nearby stable, enjoy the shade of the vines on a summer afternoon, and wash your face with the fresh water from the fountain to get rid of the dust from the road. The next morning, you can explore the silk market.

Gate of Forgiveness
Boutique Hotel Luna Granada Centro is an 11-minute drive away from Granada Cathedral, which makes it a must-visit place during your stay in Granada. The main entrance of the Granada Cathedral is also known as the Gate of Forgiveness. Here, you can learn stories about the origin of its name. Granada is an imperial city, which connected the Royal Chapel with the Cathedral of Saint Jerome. Thanks to its historic past, I believe that it could have been the symbolic center of the Holy Roman Empire.

While staying at this hotel, be sure to visit Palace of Charles V at the heart of the Alhambra. This place not only displays gorgeous architecture but also boasts binaural quality acoustics similar to the best concert halls in the world. I was lucky enough to enjoy a rehearsal of the Nutcracker here. My enjoyment was multiplied by the aesthetic emotions that the palace itself generated. The setting and the lighting added to the beauty of the performance.

Casa del Chapiz

Only a five-minute drive away from the hotel, you can find Casa del Chapiz, a 16th-century museum complex. Check out the methodical work of Torres Balbás, who also worked on the Alhambra. His restoration and conservation efforts are rigorous, sensitive, and opposite to the orientalist fantasy that prevailed in earlier times. He presented the beauty of the simple and the scientific, which at the same time brought us closer to the reality of the monuments of Granada.

Hotel Santa Isabel La Real is located in the Albaicín neighborhood where you can take a walk to admire the sunset and enjoy a cultural experience. This place is a blend of houses, palaces, and churches that were once mosques and cisterns. You'll always find distinguished and aristocratic inhabitants on the rooftops of these houses. After exploring the neighborhood, you can relish a meal at Restaurante Alarique, which has a rooftop seating area from where you can soak in the views. Then, head to one of the emblematic streets of the Albaicín, San Juan de los Reyes. In the past, it was a Roman road and an epicenter of the lower area of the Muslim neighborhood.

Andalusian Musical Documentation Center

This boutique hotel is within a 10-minute walking distance of Centro de Documentación Musical de Andalucía. There are places in Granada that often go unnoticed but are unique. This is the case for this musical documentation center. Housed in a building that probably dates back to the end of the 16th century, the place has beautiful glazed ceramic plinths. It was restored in the '90s by recovering its true appearance of painted Venetian brick. It's one of the few, or perhaps the only, examples of the late Renaissance architecture in Spain.

Royal Chapel of Granada
Villa Oniria is an ideal base for history buffs, located only about a 10-minute walk away from the Royal Chapel of Granada. The chapel was designed by the RRCC in 1504. Granada was meant to be the symbol of unification at that time, and Queen Isabella ended up giving her life for the city she loved. However, she died before the chapel's construction was completed. The RRCC were buried in the Muslim Medina before the chapel's completion.

A 19-minute drive from Villa Oniria will take you to Cerro de la Encina. This site houses the remains of the bastion of the Argaric culture. This one is just a walk from the center of Granada.

The road to the Cerro de la Encina site leaves us with beautiful landscapes in autumn. Granada, the capital of the province, is just a few minutes' walk away, where we can find places that in other cities would take hours to reach.

After exploring the bastions, head to Senderismo en Granada, a 12-minute drive from here. The drillings, wash basins, bridges, and old buildings from a French mining operation intended for gold extraction mark a spectacular path here.

Cuesta de Gomérez

If you need some fresh air, take about a 10-minute drive from the hotel to explore Cuesta de Gomérez. This tree-lined avenue falls on my way back home from work and I love the cool environment in these high temperatures. The groves of Gomérez are the lungs of the center of Granada. Its existence dates back to reforestation in the Christian times. Almez (the most common tree in Islamic times), chestnut, elm, London plane, laurel, tilapia, maple, and fresh berries dominate the area.

Gar Anat Hotel Boutique will place you close to Nasrid Palaces, which is just an eight-minute drive away. Upon entering the palace, you'll notice a courtyard with a beautiful fountain. It shows war lions aggressively protecting the water, which was considered a symbol of life back then. The most intriguing thing about this fountain and palace is that it had a complex and high-standard hydraulic system for its time. Be sure to check it out along with the beautiful architecture of the palace itself.

A 10-minute drive from Hotel Casa Morisca will take you to Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción "La Cartuja", the most exquisite example of Christian art in Granada. Situated amidst fertile orchards, it likely occupies what was once one of Ibn al Jatib's estates. Initially intended as the Great Captain's final resting place, this monastery, despite facing confiscation, stands today as a testament to Spanish Baroque mastery.

Featuring Lanjarón marble, inlaid doors, and furniture that took almost forty years to make, La Cartuja is a paradise where exquisite decoration is integrated in a magnificent way within the complex. It's probably the crown jewel of the city's Christian architecture and art.

Want to try Japanese cuisine during your stay? Head to Restaurante KIĀTO, which is less than a six-minute walk away from this hotel. At this restaurant, you can enjoy products that are treated in the best possible way. The nigiri here receives an honor plate for the spectacular cutting and cooking of rice, something I have never seen in any other restaurant. Hopefully, the great Jose will reveal his secret. You can't afford to miss this place!

La Calderería
If you're staying at Hotel Casa 1800 Granada, you'll be close to La Calderería and La Alcaicería, as both are within a seven-minute walk away. They are undoubtedly the two streets that remind us of the city's Islamic past. Here, you can bargain and find souvenirs from all over the world. Calderería means boilermaking, which was regulated since the 16th century, whose main product, the cauldron, is governed by ordinances. It's kept in its original form since the 16th century. Personally, I believe a good pot should be made of bronze and have an iron handle.

Despite its world record, the units are roomy enough to let you move freely. All nine rooms have vibrant accent walls, giving the space a warm and relaxed feel.

In your downtime, head to the rooftop and marvel at the city skyline. Later, you can cap off the night with a glass of wine at the on-site bar.

If you're staying at Hotel Molinos, visit Paseo Fuente de la Bicha, also known as la Bicha, an eight-minute drive away from here. It's a favorite route among Granadians, and the truth is that it's very pretty. Nestled at the foot of the Culebra Hill, this area was used in Nazarene times for breeding the birds that fed the Royal House. For a brief time, this path was used by the water suppliers and it was connected to The Palacio de los Alixares. Don't miss out on visiting this place if you wish to capture beautiful sunsets.

This property is just an eight-minute walk away from Palacio del Conde Luque (de las Columnas). Did you know that the site is located in what was originally an extramural of the city in an agricultural area belonging to the Vega? It was erected in the 19th century as a private noble residence. I love the fact that it has a unique U-shaped garden that would look out over the fertile plains of the city. Today, it's the Translation faculty and my favorite building at the University of Granada (UGR).
