1. Pomperlut
To start the list of some of the best spots in Bruges why no go big? Pomperlut not only serves up some of the best five-star cuisine in the city but the decor of the restaurant is definitely something else. It’s been describes as “taking a step back into a 17th-century fairy tale”. It’s definitely an intimate experience and you won’t be disappointed by the amazing food. They serve traditional Belgian and French food and the cozy atmosphere is only the tip of the iceberg. It is a pretty pricey place, so this may not be for the traveler on a budget.

This one’s for all the fans of live music out there. Featuring many artists and musicians from not only Belgium but from all around Europe, this quaint little cafe is great, located in a building that was built in the 1400s. There’s a great selection of coffees, cocktails and of course, delicious Belgian beers. Of course this wouldn’t be a food article without mentioning the menu selection. There’s a selection of quick little appetizers and finger food as well as heavier meal options. This is a great spot is you want to sit back and enjoy some live jazz and a cocktail or if you’re looking for some lunch or dinner.

3. Park Restaurant

Rated one of the best restaurants in Bruges, Park Restaurant is no doubt a place to try. Though it is on the fine dining side and thus a little more expensive, if you want to spring for a fancy dinner, I’d definitely recommend this spot. Their menu is French/Belgian and they offer a delightful cozy atmosphere like sitting in a dining room with friends. The friendly staff also assist you on pairings for which wines will go best with your meal, so they are very knowledgeable about their menus and what’s featured on them.

A taste of the south in the north! The Olive Tree serves up some delicious Mediterranean style cuisine in a wonderfully decorated restaurant. The chefs serve up authentic Greek style food and drinks, so make sure you grab an Ouzo with your meal. The chefs make their meals with the utmost care and are very proud to be serving authentic ingredients and food from the Mediterranean.

So this may not be the best place to bring your vegetarian friends because this is a meat feast. Featuring American style BBQ you will no doubt walk out of there a greasy mess, but trust me, that’s a good thing! For 18 EUR (22 USD) you can have all you can eat. So make it a point to come here when you’re really hungry. It’s an easy going atmosphere and decent prices for some of the best BBQ you can probably find in Belgium. Definitely check out the ribs, but their steak is delicious as well.

Located in a building that dates bates back a few centuries, the Belgian Pigeon House is not only a great restaurant but a really cool place to just be in! The aesthetic of the restaurant is very unique, with its old style charm and modern style food options. Of course the decorative theme of the pigeon is prevalent throughout the restaurant. They serve up some delicious European style food and grilled delicacies.

A quaint little restaurant serving up traditional Dutch and Flemish dishes as their specialty; this is a great spot to take a date or have a romantic evening with a partner. Sample a few different dishes and sip on some wine in a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Not a very touristy spot, so if you want to feel like a local, make sure to check out this spot. On a cold night make sure to order the stew!

9. Gruuthuse Hof

Serving up classic Dutch/Flemish and European style dishes, make sure you try the Flemish Stew - it’s out of this world. The cost is great as well, considering that the restaurant is in the middle of the city and thus can be more on the expensive side of things, especially if there are many tourists around. They have meals of the day, so every time you go it may be something different! For 18 EUR (22 USD) you can get a three course meal.

You’ll definitely feel like some kind of royalty eating here. The ornate decor is reminiscent of something you’d find in a French chateaux. The food, while quite pricey, is amazing and probably deserving of a Michelin star. Definitely check out this restaurant if you’re a food lover and want to impress your friends. They serve high end French/European cuisine located in a luxury hotel. If you really want to impress a loved one, definitely spring for a dinner and a night here - it’s a gastronomic experience you certainly won’t forget.

11. Auberge de Herborist - Dine in the garden of endless delights
This fine dining restaurant located in an old farm building on the outskirts of Bruges can accommodate up to 60 people in four linked rooms. The chef and owner, Alex Hanbuckers, is a devoted herbalist who creates his remarkable menus from the abundance of his own herb garden, where can be found an incredible variety of well-known and a few lesser known herbs and vegetables. The meticulous care given to every dish is the same attention to detail given to the setting itself. What was once a dilapidated 19th century farmhouse has been transformed into a cozy dining space with a sunny terrace and ample parking space. The cuisine is a vegetarian’s dream-come-true with a distinct Asian influence, which may surprise you if you are expecting traditional Belgian food. Three days a week, if you are able to arrange for it in advance, you can join the kitchen staff to observe how the dishes are prepared while one of the chefs explains the “tricks of the trade.”

PEACH, RICE CREAM, WHITE CHOCOLATE by @maison.dlongueville

This 2 Michelin star restaurant is run by chef Filip Claeys, considered a rock star of the Belgian food scene, and his life partner Sandra Meirlevede, once an up-and-coming fashion designer. The food served here is anything but mainstream; it is more of an expression of the chef’s passion for creating a provocative yet fun dining experience. You can choose from a number of prepared menus that feature various courses and price points. Local products are the main feature at De Jonkman; 80% of the ingredients used to prepare the exquisite dishes are obtained from within Belgium. But this is not to say that the cuisine here is in any way ordinary. Absolutely far from it! The dishes are highly refined and as delightful to look at as they are pleasing to the taste. De Jonkman is definitely a must-try when on holiday in Bruges.
