Popular as the Apple Capital of the World, Wenatchee lying at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia rivers is the gateway to a plethora of outdoor adventures and activities and home to tons and tons of apple orchards. Sharing its name with Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Lake Wenatchee, and Wenatchee River, the city is also a gateway to all of these, making it a great base to explore the great outdoors of Washington. 1. Wenatchee Confluence State Park

Located in the heart of the town of Wenatchee, right exactly where the Columbia and Wenatchee rivers meet, the 194-acre (78.5-hectare) Wenatchee Confluence State Park offers year-round camping. With a designated natural wetland and a recreation area both located within, the park offers 51 spacious utility spaces, 8 tent spaces, restrooms, showers, access to tons of hiking trails, 70 picnic tables, numerous first-come-first-serve braziers, and a day-use, 12-table kitchen shelter with a barbeque. In addition, there are tennis, volleyball, soccer, softball, and basketball courts where you can stay active. With the rivers located right here, the beautifully manicured park also offers opportunities for swimming, freshwater fishing, and boating.

2. Beehive Spring Campground


Located near the 12-acre (4.8 hectares) Beehive Reservoir, Beehive Spring Campground is a great fishing destination and campground located 11 miles (17.7 km) southwest of Wenatchee. This primitive but utterly gorgeous campground is located in a green spot right at the very foothills of Mission Peak. The lovely wilderness offers clean tenting sites and capacious camping spaces, decent and clean bathrooms, fire pits, picnic tables, and lots of opportunities for fishing in the reservoir. Campers can also indulge in whitewater paddling, swimming, playing golf, and hiking, with the campground being the gateway to Beehive ORV Trail and Devils Gulch Trail.

Lincoln Rock State Park, located 10 miles (16 km) north of Wenatchee, might be small, but it is packed with tons of amenities and activities for a fun-filled stay. The peaceful, secluded hideaway that is Meadow Creek Campground is located in the heart of Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, right along Chiwawa River, around 48 miles (77 km) northwest of Wenatchee and 25.5 miles (41 km) north of Leavenworth. Offering a few exclusive dispersed sites for RVs, trailers, vans, and tents, the campground is accessible only via up-to-30-foot trailers (9.1 metres). Meadow Creek Campground offers gorgeous picnicking areas, great opportunities for spotting wildlife, and a fantastic place to camp away in the heart of the forest. Nestled in a grove of Western Larches and Ponderosa Pines, the charming Swauk Campground features 21 sites for tents and RVs (no hookups) and both single and double campsites. The campground features a plethora of outdoorsy amenities for campers in this neck of the woods, including 22 picnic sites, toilets, potable water, restrooms (vault toilets), and even a picnic shelter. Wenatchee Crest Snowshoe Trailhead is just 4 miles east of the campground, while during winters, campers can enjoy skiing in the adjacent snowpark. Swauk Campground is 43 miles (69 km) west of Wenatchee and 30 miles (48 km) south of Leavenworth, so you need to stock up on all and any supplies that you might need during your stay here.

The 127-acre (51-hectare) Daroga State Park is located 23 miles (37 km) north of Wenatchee, right on the waters of Columbia River. With the 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of river shoreline, campers at Daroga State have plenty of opportunities for viewing wildlife, bird-watching, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, boating, camping, and picnicking. Campers can boat right up to their campsite at Daroga State Park, which also has 17 spaces for tents as well as RVs. The campground features restrooms, showers, a 150-person ground, electric and water hookups, and a dump station too.
