San Francisco, United States, is a popular tourist destination due to its wide variety of attractions and shopping options. The Golden Gate Bridge, known as one of the wonders of the modern world, is an iconic attraction not to be missed if you are visiting San Francisco. This world renowned bridge, built in 1933, is 2737 meters long and 67 meters above water - an impressive feat during those days - presenting plenty of photo opportunities.
Capture magnificent pictures of the bridge from various viewing points
Photo enthusiasts will be delighted to know that there are at least two photo-taking points at Marin Headlands, which enable you to capture the bridge at different angles. Kirby Cove is one of the recommended points, allowing you to capture captivating pictures of the bridge above ground. However, do note that the strength of the wind at these viewing points is extremely strong in most months, especially winter, so do bring a jacket and a cap. Having said that, you can still visit the bridge in all months throughout the year. If you wish to admire the bridge other than snapping some pictures, there are many benches available and it allows you to slow down and appreciate the city of San Francisco even with the strong wind.
Best time to take great pictures will be in the morning
If your intention is to see the bridge and to snap some pictures, you will need less than an hour there. The city gets warmer, even in winter, as the day goes by. The best time to take pictures of the bridge is in the morning when the lights are softer. You can also spend more time there before the heats get unbearable. As the wind can be very strong, you need to apply sunblock lotion and moisturiser. Do not underestimate the sun rays because of the cooling wind!
Cyclists and pedestrians can experience travelling across the bridge
For those who loves cycling, you will be delighted to know that you can rent a bike and cycle across the bridge. This is certainly a different experience to see the bridge but do note that electric bikes are prohibited. Also, there are some time restrictions for bicycles. Hence, you should check the official website for the specific instructions. Pedestrians also have access to the East sidewalk along the bridge, which spans more than 2,700 metres. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

From the beach, there is another easy walking track back to the bridge, which can take up to 2 hours. If you have limited time but still want to hike, catching the bus down to the bridge is an alternative but you are encouraged to check the departure timing of the buses.
Getting to Golden Gate Bridge from the city is a breeze
The easiest way to get to the Golden Gate Bridge is to drive. If you are not driving in the busy city of San Francisco, you will be glad to know that the public transportation in this city is extremely good. If you are staying near Union Square, bus 76x runs on Saturday, Sunday and holidays, which brings you directly to the bridge. The bus terminates at Fort Cronkhite parking lot along Marin Headlands. You can choose to alight here to enjoy the beautiful beach or to alight a stop earlier at the Golden Gate Bridge photo-talking point. Many passengers choose to align at the photo-taking point and to catch the next bus heading back to the city.
